6705.0. "Raw performance for RAID and Non-RAID adapters" by VAXRIO::CUPOLILLO () Tue May 20 1997 05:00

         Hi,

         A customer asked me which is the overhead of the RAID processing in a
    SCSI adapter when compared with a non RAID SCSI adapter. In other
    words, for a single I/O operation with a transfer size that fits in
    one track (no seeks involved) what would be the percent difference in
    time from execute this operation from a RAID SCSI adapter (suposed to be
    using a RAID 5 configuration) and a non-RAID one?

         May we consider the performance of a RAID SCSI adapter configured
    as JBOD equal to a Non-RAID adapter?

         Thanks,

         Cupol
