    This is probably one of those no brainer questions but I wat to be
    sure...
    
    Can I create a RAID0+1 set on an HSJ50, then partition it to several
    logical disks that VMS would see?

    Yes,  the  V5.1 Release Notes state it's 4 partitions (max) per disk 
    or storageset
