81.0. "IT and PM Conference" by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (Harry Marcus) Thu Apr 03 1997 16:36

I attended the "Information Technology and Project Management
'96 Conference in October last in London UK.

The theme of the conference was "Strategies for Success", it ran
for 2 days and was attended by over 250 Project Managers,Consultants
and Senior Managers from across Europe. There was one attendee from
New Zealand and two from South Africa.

There were 4 streams:

- Business Change
- Organisation and Development
- Project Management
- Technology

The CCTA launched PRINCE 2 at the conference.

I have listed below some details of some of the papers presented:

- Risk Management for Small Projects by D Hilton, HVR Consulting
 Services
- A Process Management Environment by John Blackwell of On-line
 KnowledgeGroup
- Designing a Project for Success by Dr D Stupples of PA Consulting
 Group
- Developing and Exploiting Competency in Project Based Organisations
by G Firth and N Pinnock of PA Consulting Group
- A Universe of Projects by B Sellwood, Service Director IBM (UK) Ltd
- Broomsticks,Cauldrons and Spells by Dr E Obong, Director , The
 Virtual Business School

The event was organised by Project Manager Today Magazine and
sponsored by ABT,PA Consulting Group, Computer Weekly, BCS
and IBM.

IBM and PA Consulting were very much in evidence.

IBM were advertising their PM DIRECT Service which is a range
of Project Managmeent Services, their PRINCE 2 Environment Tool which
is a software tool which provides on-line information on
PRINCE 2 and PRINCE 2 training Courses.

PA Consulting Group provided a number of brochures, booklets
 on their Project management Services.

Interestingly there were 24 PMs from IBM, 5 from ICL, 5 from
HP and yours truly from Digital in attendance - according to
 the delegate list provided.

Are we still interested in Project Management in Digital?

This was a most interesting and useful conference - I can provide more
information if anyone is interested.
