| | try:

    o Winnt diagnostics.
o QAPlus; or other DOS diagnostic program; wring the thing out
      overnite.
o check www.microsoft.com for updated device drivers.
o check our own web page: PCBU for updated drivers.
o check the above two for known bugs.
o make sure all service packs are installed.
    o reseat boards.
o try a cold boot (turn the thing off and let it set for a bit, odd as
      it sounds *sometimes* this helps).
o if none of the above help, try reinstalling the OS. from scratch.
(shudder). don't forget the service packs.
o call 1-800-field-service (unless you *are* field service), in which
      case try:
o other suggestions from here include:
    		- sacrificial goats
    		- The Midnight Dance Of The Naked Midgets
    		- Playing The Door's "Morrison Hotel" backwards at top
volume for 28 straight hours into the open door of the
    		  CPU cabinet

And tell him to get qualified disks.
The 0014, 0016 firmware numbers are straight of the shelf
Seagate Barracudas, not the FR PCBU ones that have firmware
	that is tested and qualified.
We have no control what Seagate does on the non-OEM drives.
Question then becomes, how did these drives pop-up in there?
	A reseller? The customer itself?

| | I concur.......the disks are not supported!

I would also look at the De500.......maybe a driver issue? Heard
    it was on ship hold.

| | Pjotrr,
I have already experienced something like this problem with NT and was
exactly straight around mylex and disks but with Alpha system. I'm very
surprised about RZ29B-VW is a non qualified disks to work with PCBU products.
        Questions:
       1) Are there significant diferences between RZ29B-VW and RZ29C-VW that
prevents the system to work properly ?
       2) Are there any other conference notes about disks issues to get more
          details?
	Thanks,
	Gilberto

| | It's not a question of whether it works or not. The firmware revisions
are different, and the testing that is done on the Digital PCBU disks
give Engineering the ability to support the products. The
StorageWORKS disks do not get tested in our systems. Problems that
happen at the firmware level in the disk would NOT be fixed by Storage
works engineering as they are not qualified in PCBU products.

There are too many unknowns to make this a business justification.
I'm sure you would get the exact same response in the StorageWORKS
    notesfile.

The RZ29B is a DEC tested/qualified drive, the rz29C is for folks who
who would like to buy a Seagate drive w/o paying for the DEC
testing/qualification. In general if one model works, the other
might work for awhile as well, but there is no support. If one model
does not work, it is improbable that the other model will work either.
However, just because a drive is tested/qualified by DEC does not
imply that it will work everywhere, it will only work where it is
 listed to work.
DEC and Seagate firmware revisions track, the reported model/vendor
 numbers are different.
ask_ssag is on node ssag (not ddag...typo)
Is the RAID controller firmware current? ...and are the drives
on the list of RAID supported drives for the Mylex?

| | Thanks Bruce.

        Fingers are TIRED!!!!! ;^)

There is a complete list of adapters/drives etc posted on
akin40.ako.dec.com. If you search the options DB it has
mylex firmware minimum levels and drive f/w levels as well.

        one small nit,

The Segate drive is NOT a tested qualified drive. The
    FR-mumble-mumble
drive from Digital Personal Computer Business Unit IS a fully
tested and qualified drive. Fully tested and qualified by the
    PCBU.
We are still Digital though I'd rather be DEC, last time I looked
    at my
        24 year old badge. ;^)

OK..., discounting the Drive issue, what are your log files telling
    you?
And..., are you getting any blue screen info?
