Perhaps the machine just needs more memory. I find 486/66 machines
quite adequate when loaded with 16MB or more memory for single tasks.
I've run 486's with as much as 32MB. Worked quite well.

    YMMV.

| | If you visit the PCBU Support Home page (HTTP://PCBU.AKO.DEC.COM), you
can find the upgrade information under the Venturis 4xxx topic (in the
techtips). The Starion 200/300 uses the same motherboard as the
Venturis 4xxx and has been tested with the chips listed.

| | um.... not to be an idiot, but when I go to install the chip (an 83MHz
Pentium at some future time, when the buddy gets the $$$ in place),
switchpacks and jumpers are listed for two Venturis ((Venturii?)
    machines: Venturis 4XXX (54-23580) and Venturis 4XXX (54-25054). both
have different switchpacks and jumpers listed. Which machine do I
    cast my fate with?

    humbly yours, (in advance)

| | The Starion User Guide has the jumper settings for the Starion 200 in
Appendix A. The Starion used the 54-23580 MLB design.
