    We'll it's time for warmup week in college football with only two
    games on the slate.  I've spent countless seconds analyzing these 
    two blockbusters.
    
    Ohio State is giving 3.5 to our BC Eagles.  Let's think about this one
    OSU = Gronowski, BC = everyone else, I'll go with everyone else and
    take BC to not only cover the spread but win the game outright for
    a 100.
    
    Michigan gives Virgina 7 in the Pigskin classic.  Even though it
    appears the Wolverines graduated every starter from last year who
    touched the ball, I think they'll reload just fine for a 100.

However, from what I understand as long as you don't take the money back
into the good ol' US of A, don't use the mail system or the phone system,
you're legal.

The way most people do it is with FedExpress or some other overnight
service to make the individual wagers.

This is also a legal way of entering the lotteries while living in
another state. Some of 'em take a FedEx entry, with the necessary money
enclosed, natch.

    will be a 40 point slaughter but the line sits at 18.5 a bargain.

    UCLA playing BYU the number must be 60 or 65. NYET it's a paltry 48.
    Both of these teams can put them up in a hurry, look for 40 by

    Tenn giving 12.5 to Georgia - Zeier.  hmmmm  UT spanked the dogs
    @Georgia last year,  I think the 12.5 is too much to give and will take
    the bulldogs for a 100.
    
    BE game of the week
    Syracuse coming off fairly big win at UNC will easily cover the 6 at
    home vs. a game East Carolina squad.  Take them Orangepeople for a 100.

    Georgia gave Tenn all they could handle and would have won the game
    if they had any depth at all at tailback.

    Thanks to the hundreds of mail messages urging me to give them a 
    Thursday night winner. 
    
    Tonight's matchup pits the 2-0 Kansas Jayhawks vs. the 1-0 TCU 
    horned frogs.  Both are coming off chest pounding thumpings of 
    North Texas and Iowa State respectively (ooohhh).  In this not quite
    ready for prime time matchup I'll take the Jayhawks pass happy
    offense and give the 3.5 points.  TCU runs the ball too much and
    Kansas has too much practice against the run ie.. TCU is no Nebraska!

    Sullivan as head coach. I would bot be suprised to see them start
    throwing more often. Kansas (without Chad May) is rebuilding it's

Signs that you've been on the road to long:

Right afore the game a buddy of mine and I looked at the Weather Channel
for inspiration. He asks me where Kansas is and I reply Iowa. It just
came out of some primitive brain cell and was rapidly expelled with no
processing.

In any case this game, which ended with the Jayhawks winning 38-13, was a
lot closer. TCU had a couple of chances even right up to the end when
they hovered at down 8. At the end KU busted a couple of TDs while only
trying to run out the clock.

    A yawner last night as KU jumps out to 21-0 lead and coasts.  That
    sets the season record to 3-4 -50.

    vs. Florida.  I'm kind of bummed the line is Fl. by 7 but the boys in
    Vegas know what I know.  Florida is going to romp all over Tenn.
    This one will be decided by at least 3 touchdowns. FLorida for 200
    
    Service academy game of the week
    In a first IM is going to take a Military favorite.  I like Air Force
    to slip by CSU by the 6.5.  CSU couldn't stop CU running game, so they'll
    never catch the Air Force running attack.  100
    
    A couple other key games which I'm not taking but may be of interest
    is Ohio State giving 8 to Washington.  If you have to take the
    Buckeye's and the home crowd.  UCLA giving 5.5 to Oregon.  Freshman

Air Force is not only a stink'n military school but also plays in the
wacky WAC, more than enough excuse to avoid the Falcons. FWIW, Army and
Navy, like Air Force, lost, but if'n you had the points, unlike Air
Force, both woulda won.

    OUCH!  Coulda shoulda woulda.  As Nazz was kind enough to point out 8*)
    IM is in the poorhouse after this weekend going 1-3 and losing 560.

    starting over in building up the bankroll.  IM was getting tired of

    The good news about the past weekend was it didn't affect my 
    THURSDAY NIGHT LOCK OF SEPTEMBER.  IM had this game circled on the
    schedule at least 3 or 4 hours ago.
    
    The resurgent Maryland team takes on Georgia Tech in Atlanta.  The line
    is a morsel at Maryland 1.5.  Milanovich is starting for Maryland
    at QB.  He was on suspension for gambling for 4 games.  IM kinda
    likes that in a QB.  Maryland for 100

The difference here was plain and simple: the Clemson refs and Scott
Milanovich.

Milanovich has no clue during long periods of time. All other 21 players
on the field were basically on the same page but Scott showed no ability
to read much less keep up.

Then the call/breaks - sorta kidding about them Clemson refs type refs,
sorta. It starts with a run that Tech made where a guy got decleated on a
shot that was very close to a clip. We'll get back to that.

Then the Terps struck finally, down 10-zip, and got it to the 1.
Penalties, sacks and the general malaise that Milanovich was forced them
into a FG: 10-3.

Then the Terps stuck again and lo and behold, it's a long bomb. There's
the Terp with the ball, his buddy to block and a lone Techster. Same
block as said same mentioned afore but thised time it's a_illegal block.

    Well, another long night for UMDan.
    
    TTom got it right about Milanovich and not being on the same page with
    the other players.  It looked as if this was the first time we had
    ever seen a blitz!  Ususally a team can adjust and burn the blitzers
    (once, just once!), but MD was unable to do it.  And what the hell
    happened to our rushing game?  The offense looked like the Falcons
    chuck and duck, what with all the short passes.
    
    I still can't figure why Dufner didn't pull Milanovich and put in
    Cummings.  What did the ESPN'ers say about this?
    
    I have yet to see the Terps win at Bobby Dodd stadium since Iv'e been
    in Atlanta.  Take heed next time, IMJIMBO.

They all said it was a coaching decision and they supported Duffner's
decision, etc., etc.

About the onliest guy making any kinda statement was the director who
regularly had a camera pan over to see Cummings both when Milanovich was
on the field and talking with him on the sidelines. Cummings looked ready
to go.

    Look out below IMJIMBO is in the middle of the Mass Pike rock
    slide!  As anyone who plays the pony's knows slumps are part of
    the game.  The key is to minimize those, how shall I say "fargin
    Saturday's when things don't go your way".    
    
    THE almost UNDEFEATED LOCK OF THE WEEK
    Colorado is for real.  Can they cover the 3.5 at Okie?  I don't
    even see this as a close game.  2 TD minimum win for the Buff's. 300
    
    THE OTHER BIG GAME OF THE WEEK
    Which ND will show up, Northwestern's or Texas?  I don't think it will
    matter a bit.  Ohio State is a force this year and should have no
    problem covering the 6.5.  100
    
    BC GAME OF THE WEEK
    2 weeks to prepare should give BC the edge over a mediocre Mich St.
    team.  Both teams are missing some key starters but as you all know
    IM loves it when teams are hurting(UCLA last week).  BC to cover the
    4.5 for 100
    
    IM's TEASE OF THE WEEK
    IM frowns upon Teasers but we need to shake things up a bit.  I like
    Rutgers getting 8 vs Syracuse and Texas Tech getting 7.5 vs Baylor.  
    I think both should win outright but a TD buffer is nice.  We'll tie 
    them up for a 100.

    A great weekend turned into a mediocre weekend due to one Mr.
    Hartsell and his ability to hit those Mich St players in the 
    numbers.  Total for the weekend was 2-2 but more importantly 
    we won the big one and came up +180.  Overall totals now stand
    at 10-11 +60.  Certainly no trip to the tropics yet but easily
    dinner and drinks at the Picadilly Pub.

    Ohio State and ND scored late to make IM 300 richer.  Miami did
    about what I thought against Fl St. but missed by a touch.

    I've given the travel agent a call and we need a couple more
    winning weeks to be golfing in Bermuda in January.

    Kansas thouroughly ripped Oklahoma a new one.  Nebraska let K St
    score 19 in the 4th quarter to let state cover by a 1/2 point.
    Iowa lost by 14 to Penn St. by stupidity.  5 minutes left in the game
    3rd and 4.5 and Iowa cornerback lines up offsides.  Result is first
    and TD happens a few play later.  USC flat out got killed at ND, combo
    of USC stinking up the joint and ND playing a very inspired game.

After beating Michigan and Notre Dame on the road and *waxing* Wisconsin 35-0,
how can Northwestern be getting points against a mediocre squad?  There can't
be enough high rollers in Illinois that are that stupid!

I think it's a case of the public not willing to accept that Northwestern
is actually decent.

The Northwestern-Illinois and Kansas St-Kansas lines are examples of how
ignorant a vast majority of betters are.

I'd think they'd be keyed for *every* Big-10 game - if they can keep on a
roll and if OSU stumbles once...

I don't think OSU *will* stumble, but if I were Northwestern, I'd be trying

    I think I saw where Strine is 25-28 and down about a grand, all on the

    I think you overrate the puplic perception factor in odds laying. 
    Vegas has a very sophisticated operation and uses personnel matchups
    and player injuries and tendencies much like horse racing handicaps
    where furlong times, breeding etc count more strongly than actual
    victories.

    spread the same is not nearly as true in sports betting leading to the

    IM is crawling out from a terrible weekend, but the faithful will
    be glad to know it wasn't my fault.  How was I to know Kansas would
    throw the game, that Auburn's caffeine pills wouldn't kick in until
    the second half, that USC already had it figured on how to slide
    into the Rose bowl.
    
    The one shining light was the Huskers as usual.  Whipping Colorado
    vaults them over Fl St. for the #1 ranking in both polls.  Had to
    go to Waltham to watch the game and found all kinds of Husker fans.

    The powers that be have delivered a decent game on a Thursday, in
    my best Mel Allen "How bout that".
    
    Florida State pissed off after being demoted to #2 travels to Virginia
    favored by 19.  Sounds like a blow-out, smells like a romp,
    feels like a crush job.  Public money is pouring in on Fl. State,
    but public money is foolish money because IM has the real scoop.
    Virginia's defense is the best the 'Noles have faced, Virginia's
    "O" is a nice mix of run and pass eating up valuable time.  IM
    says 1 touchdown game and Virginia has a shot at the tie at the
    end.  Virginia for a 100.
    
    Over/Under sits at 60, while IM is against under plays, this one
    looks pretty good, if you must.

     The other game they lost was to a rather poor UNC squad.  FSU by +20

    IM watches all sports related shows, tapes all games, scours

    Nice call IM. I was impressed with UVA. What a gut-wrenching end of the
    game. Dunn stopped 6 inches from the goal line. If he could have 
    stretched the ball out and away from his body, he'd have broken the 
    plane. Instead as he was falling it was stuck in his midsection and
    well...

    Re-1 Not to mention the great hit No.3 put on him. If he hits him in the
    legs the runner goes in. He hit him on the shoulders and was stopped
    dead. Now it looks like Florida and Nebraska in the Fiesta and OSU in
    the Rose. Once again the top 2 teams in the country won't meet for the

there.  IM likes an improving Texas team to whip Texas Tech who peaked

Craig James was saying last Thursday night (long after it would do any good)
what a travesty it was that Fitzgerald wasn't even a Butkus finalist for
the country's best linebacker.  Having seen Fitzgerald in a live game for the
first time on Saturday, I'd tend to agree, but I wonder if Craig was really
pushing that issue when the finalists were being determined...

I think Nebraska would beat Northwestern, but I'm not sure it would be a 
blowout.  From what I've seen the last couple of weeks, Northwestern really
whacks people on D.  The game I'd *love* to see is Ohio State/Northwestern -
again, I think OSU would win, but I think it'd be a great game.

Of course, I'm sure Notre Dame, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Penn State were all
marking mental "W"s next to Northwestern on their schedules this year...

    Has anyone in the Boston area seen which college game our area
    will be getting Saturday on Ch 5.  I'm trying to find out

    in the last 2 minutes of a football game.

I myself found the over more entertaining.

    IM is a happy camper this new year.  The faithful had a very how
    shall we say profitable weekend.  The picks went an ok 5-3 against
    the line but more importantly came back with a +960 pricetag.
    
    totals for the year 40-35, +1555....very nice....IM will be golfing
    somewhere warm this winter!
    
    THE LOCK OF THE YEAR
    I hope most of you are tuned in tonight to watch the Nebraska
    destruction of Florida.  IM promises you won't have to stay up
    too late because this one will be over early.  The line has been
    set at 4 and we'll jump on that for a nice even 1000.

    to bed early!!!!  IM hopes every Florida fan that has been 
    calling, mailing, dropping by to tell me how good they were,
    feels a bit foolish today.  IM will remember to remind you

    It's been a good year for the IMsters, totals for the college
    football season with a few pro's sprinkled on was 41-35.  Locks
    were somewhere around 13-3, including 4-0 in the bowl games.
    The net for the year is a +2555 which will certainly pay for
    a few rounds(of golf among many things) at some tropical 
    locale

    Thursday is history! The positive cash flow starts this weekend.  As
    always IMJIMBO will not only pad your wallet, we'll try to do it
    with a bunch of big games of the week and TV games.  My agent wants
    me to reach out to the casual fan who might otherwise be watching
    the borderline sports talked about so often in here.
    
    BIG 12 GAME OF THE WEEK
    IM's Huskers are giving 30 to Michigan State.  Go Big Red!  Win by 28.
    Oh yes we're going with the suprising Spartans to keep this one
    semi-reasonable.  Mich St. for a 100
    
    THE BATTLE OF COLORADO
    Colorado giving 17 to Col St.  Never liked Colorado St. much and 17
    seems like a light number.  Look for Colorado to romp as State
    can't do anything against big time defense.  Col for a 100.
    
    Marquee Matchup of the week
    The 'Cuse hype is in full swing.  Syracuse giving 3 to UNC.  UNC
    dismantled Clemson last week, outplayed Syracuse last year but lost.
    I'll take a flyer on UNC for a 100.
    
    LOCK OF THE WEEK
    We'll go back to the Big 12 for this one.  Texas Tech giving 13 1/2 to
    Okie State.  This one smells like a welcome to Texas job for Okie State

    Just happened to be with Jimbo for a while last night, watching the ND
    - Vandy game. Three (that's right, 3) minutes into the game he said
    "I should've went with the under"!! Sounded like it might be a long
    year to me!

    Well he's not as bad as Gerald Strine who went 1-5 last week.  And he's
    right about Powlus.
    
    Doesn't Nebraska always decimate the big ten in these early games?

    A positive cash flow weekend is a good weekend.  IM didn't anticipate 
    all the TD's the Husker D was going to score or the swiss cheese D
    product Colorado was going to put on the field.  The LOCK on Texas Tech
    was as advertised and UNC won outright on the road against MIGHT Syracuse.
    
    2-2, +180 for the weekend
    
    Totals for the year 2-3, +70.  
    
    I will be keeping a running tally against The Globe's Strine and the
    Heralds IMBETTOR.  I kicked their butts last year and will have their
    PAYING jobs by next year!  You guys will be whining I knew IMJIMBO when

    Another Thursday night go into the weekend up special.  IM isn't going
    to kid you tonight's matchup has a good line but when there's only
    1 game on the board we must forge ahead.
    
    Miami giving 25 to Rutgers at Rutgers.  IM is going with Rutgers really
    is that bad.  They are starting the third string QB, both RB's are
    banged up, defense gave up 56 to Miami last year.  Miami shuts them
    out and wins 35-0 for a 100.

    but IM will be shocked if the number is above 12 in Mass.  
    
    The middle on the Pack to win and the pats to cover is not
    a wise one, too much risk.  A better choice would be if your
    goal is +1000 on the day and you don't lose the coin toss prop
    take the pats +14 for 500 and pats outright for 100 to make 500.
    and then your figures are +1000, +400, -650........
