I tried the vinegar/h2o2 solution on my Super Redhawk after firing
some cast lead bullets. The barrel was pretty fouled. The solution
works great. I held my finger over the back end of the barrel and
poured it full. The solution foamed and frothed and turned black.
After a few minutes, I poured the solution out and swabbed the barrel
a few times with a bore brush, then a patch. Yuck! I had to repeat
the treatment 3 or 4 times, then some Hoppes to clear out the
solution and several dry patches to dry, then a bit of oil,
but the barrel came shiny clean. The Super Redhawk has a stainless
barrel, so I didn't think I could hurt it much.

I gave my .280 the "treatment" with the Remington Bore Cleaner. I had
to repeat the patch-over-brush, swab, clean patch treatment probably
10 times, but the patches did finally start comming out clean.

BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS SOLUTION!!!

When you're done, you have a solution containing lead acetate which is
the salt produced by metalic lead and acetic acid. This is readily
absorbed into the skin and very poisoness.

| | It also WILL eat metal. My 'smith threw some blued parts into the solution
overnight to see what would happen, and they were pitted the next morning.

| | Ahhh Gi'day...
Remington bore cleaner is made from a lava product, that is harder than
copper and lead, but softer than steel. It is a mild abrasive.
Therefore, the bore brushes will not the best way to clean - you are
better off with a patch, although the brush will help break up the
    fouling.

| | I think that REM recommends a patch over a bore brush for applying
Remclean. I assumed that was what the poster was doing.

I presume this is to work the stuff down along the rifling.
