| 2638.1 | Some clarification re: .0 | M5::BLITTIN |  | Wed May 28 1997 17:28 | 6 |

    Let me clarify one point:

    The default location is sys$system and when I change this via
    DEFINE/SYST DBM$MONITOR DISK1:[LOGFILE] and restart the monitor
    with DBO/MON START, the log file still goes to SYS$SYSTEM.

    The DBMS Admin Guide, DBO/MONITOR START, defines the /OUTPUT
    qualifier default as SYS$OUTPUT, under the format section, but
    under the command qualifiers section states that the /OUTPUT
    default is SYS$SPECIFIC:DBMMON.LOG

    The RMU Guide states that the default for /OUTPUT is
    SYS$SYSTEM:RDMMON.LOG. The example in the RDB maint guide for
    changing the location of the monitor log also uses a logical, but
    defines this with the /EXECUTIVE_MODE. Haven't tried this yet,
    but if it works, then the doc (dbms) should be clarified.

| 2638.3 | Doc bug? | M5::BLITTIN |  | Thu May 29 1997 12:56 | 7 |

    Appears that the DEFINE/SYST DBM$MONITOR to another location other
    than SYS$SYSTEM does not work by itself. You can define a logical
    but you must use it when starting the monitor, eg.,
    DBO/MON START/OUT=logical or pathname.

    Should I doc bug this?

| | I can't find anything in the code that uses that logical. Please
    submit a DOC BUG.

| | I seem to remember reading that DBM$MONITOR no longer worked. This
    would be in the release notes around the 3.x timescale, or just
    possibly 4.0.
