We normally print Japanese (Kanjii) on one of our LPS20's, I've
installed LPS V5.1 followed by JLPS V5.1. All is fine

Now the LPS20 broke down and I tried to print the Kanjii file on an
LPS17, there is no KPS load file for Printserver 17's so I just
modified the LPSCONFIG file to include
      variant kanji
and the LPSRESOURCES file to include

        filename lps_deckanji_prologue.ps
        type prologue
        name lps_deckanji_prologue
        version V3.2-00

        filename ps_supplement.ps
        type prologue
        name ps_supplement
        version 1.5

The printserver loads fine, loads the resource file but when we print
a Kanjii file to it it prints header page and the end of job page with
the error %DCPS-E-FLUSHING, Rest of Job (to EOJ) will be ignored

The file prints fine on the LPS20

     I'm using DCPS V1.2

Well, the LPS17/600 supports kanji printing IF you pay for the kanji
fonts. With level 2, kanji is supported via font faulting. The same
PrintServer load file is used but a different PostScript interpreter.
The fonts remain on the host and are `faulted' in across the network
when needed (to be specific, the entire font is nevered faulted, its
faulted in pieces). There is an elaborate scheme for protecting the
fonts so that they cannot be used on a printer that has not paid the
royalty fee. The fonts are copyrighted by Mirasowwa (sp).

You said you had been using JLPS V5.1 - was that level 2? If yes, then
the person who set up the LPS20 should know about getting the security
key. You would not have to pay for the fonts, since you already had
with previous versions of JLPS. HOWEVER that does not apply to moving
    to the LPS17/600.

So, you need to determine what version of PostScript you were running
on the LPS20. Is you LPS17 an LPS17/600? Does it have enough memory -
    needs at least 20 ( I think)?

Some one from the Japan office will have to supply the instruction for
getting a Kanji kit for the LPS17 and getting a security key for the
fonts (which come in 2 (same as LPS20), 5 and 7).

| 7181.2 | LPS20 gets KPS load file | ESSB::JNOLAN | John Nolan | Wed Apr 30 1997 05:56 | 5 |

Thanks for the info., the LPS20 doesn't need a security key as it
loads a KPS image at boot time. I'll see if I can get a part number
of the Kanjii license for the LPS17 and if I do I'll post it here
