Have anyone heard of any problems with DCPS 1.3 after
upgrade of VMS from v6.2 to version 7.1
I have a customer that see problems like queues being
stopped. Nothing else happens. No messages in OPCOM
no messages in LPS log files. Its not only LPSprinters
involved.
They only have to start the queues again and everything
works fine again.
I have seen messages in OPCOM from queue-manage saying
qman-e-symdel unexpected symbiont process termination
system-f-insfmem insufficient dynamic memory.
BUT we cant see any symbiont crashes, just queues stopped.
I have read an artikel on memory leak in vaxqueman but this
problem should have been fixed in VMS v7.1
Anyone experienced anything like this?

| 7175.1 | May be due to Memory Leak problem in DECthreads. | HANNAH::KAMATH | Tue Apr 22 1997 11:16 | 46 | |
Eva, Recently I have worked on two type of cases where a symbiont dies on OpenVMS V7.0. One of which disappeared for unknown reason on OpenVMS upgrade to V7.1. 1. Symbiont dies with memory leak. This problem was worked by DCPS and DECthreads group to isolate and fix the problem. DCPS symbiont showed memory leaks and eventually died with "SYSTEM-F-INSFMEM, Insufficient dynamic memory" error message. The number of jobs executed per symbiont depended on the symbiont process quota. You need to install DECthreads patch kit/image. Please contact DECthreads people to get the kit. This problem was seen in OpenVMS V7.0 and V7.1 systems. 2. Queue stopping with reset stream error message. This problem was seen only on OpenVMS V7.0 systems and with queues with LAT ports. We believed this to be due to queue manager. I would be interested in looking at the DCPS trace output. Please enable trace by defining the following two logicals and then stopping and restarting the queues. $DEFINE/SYSTEM/EXEC DCPS$TRACE 0xFFFFFFFF $DEFINE/SYSTEM/EXEC DCPS$TRACE_FILE <dev>:<dir><filename> Please capture this trace if you get the same behaviour on installing the DECthreads patch kit.
