Hello.Im trying to help out the WOW focal at our office with
some MMM updates to the Hinote Ultra Laptops distributed to
the Field Engineers in our office. We have done about six but 2 are
giving us a real time of it.
The other 4 went smoothly w no problems at all just follow the
directions and no problems at all.
The 2 giving us problems are also Hinote Ultras but for some reason
once you finish the MMM upgrades the Digital Pcmcia CD Rom conflicts
with the PCMCIA Modem IRQ 3.
Ive been using the AGP8W95A compressed files. Each laptop Bios is at
1.41.
Any help would be appreciated.

Michael,
Just manually set the IRQ to either 9 or 11 for the CD-ROM (uncheck
that "use automatic settings" in resources). The address for that is
110- ; 120- ; 130- ; ...
IRQ 10 & address 240- ; is hard set for the PCMCIA Audio.
A better solution is looking at the ones that works and use those
settings.

I tried that but everytime I tried changing something to either 11 or
15 it said it was not possible! I read Notes for about 2 hours last
night trying to find a way to change the IRQs but to no avail.

The audio got set to 10 The PCMCIA ENET card go tset to something other
than 15 which is where mine got set. The Digital cd got set to 3 as did the
PCMCIA Modem.
Im not at the ailing machine Im at work its at home.
I compared settings to my Hinote and was trying to set them to match
but no luck.

Mike,
Since the laptop is at home, you don't need the PCMCIA Ethernet.
Remove that card to free up one interrupt (may be 11) and use that IRQ
for the CD-ROM.
Disable COM2 from ports, use "Basic configuration 001" for the modem (02F8,
IRQ3), and remember not to use the automatic settings.
I use the following setting for both Ultra I & II
Modem: COM2 (02F8, IRQ 3)
Ethernet: 0110-011F, IRQ 9
Digital PCMCIA CD-ROM: 0140-014F, IRQ 11
(Do you see the Toshiba CD-ROM?)
Digital PCMCIA Audio: 0240-024F, IRQ 10
None of the settings use automatic settings.

Here in the UK we use different Ethernet and Modem cards so this may
not apply.
You cannot use IRQ 11 or 15 on the HiNote Ultra under Windows95. This
leaves an acute shortage of IRQs. We disable the infrared port from
the BIOS to free up an IRQ for use by the Ethernet/Modem card.
Sometimes the HiNote Ultra re-enables the infrared port. We have never
managed to find out what circumstances lead to this happening.
So my advice is to look at the device setup under the BIOS
configuration and check that it is the same on the laptops with
problems and the ones that work.
