| | Hello,

I have tried to turn my PC to a dual boot machine running Windows 95 &
Windows NT V 3.51 with no luck.

I have one physical disk partitioned to two FAT logical drives C & D.
I started with installing Windows NT on C. Next I installed Windows
95 on Drive D. However, after powering up the machine unlike some of
the notes described here, I was not automatically given a menu to
choose operating systems and by default Win 95 was booted.

Figuring the problem could be that I installed NT first & then 95, I
formatted C & reinstalled NT thinking this would make it just work.
After power up although I got the boot menu but there was no mention of
Win 95. I even tried to manually edit boot.ini and add the following
line D:\="Windows 95". However, choosing this option from the menu it
    gives a trap fault.

I suspect that since the CDs that I am installing from are not upgrade
CDs they are not designed to coexist & detect others operating systems.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Bardia.

Do it the proper way. Install Windows 95 first (cleanly), then install
    Windows NT.

| | Alternatively, install DOS 6.x, NT and then 95.

    Cheers,

I did things just the way you did except I built NT first on the D:
partition and added Win95 on C: afterward. And it worked. I remember
reading somewhere that Win95 liked to be on C:.

    Good Luck,

I had DOS 6.2/Win 3.1 installed on C, then installed NT on C as well.
When I installed Win95, I put it on D, and the Win95 installation
automatically modified BOOT.INI such that NT and Win95 were my two
choices. I tried like heck to make DOS 6.2 another choice from within
the NT boot loader, but finally gave up and just used the dual-boot
feature of Win95. For the number of times I need 3.1, it's okay.
In order for your D:\="Windows 95" to work, you need the BOOTSECT.DOS
file that should have been created by the Win95 installation to reside
on D:. Check out note 2472.5 for some good web sites on understanding
this whole morass MS has created.
