If your still looking for a protien suppliment, Let me tell you I
finally found a protein bar that actually Gasp TASTES GOOD!!!!

As shocking as this might sound SportsPharama just introduced a bar
called PROMAX Bar. It taste like a chocolate peanut butter bar. You
    can eat this without gagging. Amazing 280 cal 5 .G fat 36 G carb 20 G
protien. The fat content is high though but I think it must be the
peanut butter. It also has 28 G sugar! Thats why it tastes so good.

I mean its not as good for you as a Designer Shake, but for a protien
    bar it is edible.

chocolate. this is why i am looking for a high protein shake or
something i can mix with a meal. i think i will go with the designer
protein for meals, and stay with the mega mass 2000 for a shake...

there are quite a few mixed berry fruity type flavored products on the market
right now that don't taste all that bad, just most are too sweet for me;
chocolate is just about the only sweet that i can tollerate in extremely large
quantities: curse those candy bar manf for coming ou twith the 'king size' bars!

| | Ok I started a note in the Ihat it when string but feel this is more
appropriate here. As you know I have been having trouble increasing my
caloric intake. I read in a M&D magazine (I read it twice to be sure I
didn't misread the article). That you need to have 4 grams of protien
per 1 lb of body weight to increase mass. That is an absolutely
incredible amount of protien. How does one do that? I eat 5 meals a
day, that means each one has to have a min of 144 grams of protien.
That means my diet has to jump up to 4800 calories! Even if I
suppliment shakes how can I achieve this ratio? I mean a designer
    shake is 17 g protien, 2.5 g carb, 1 g fat for a total of 90 cal. I
would have to drink 3 of those things a meal and add more protien to my
normal diet? This information can't be right? I remember Bill Oulette
was on a similar diet years ago, but anyone else use this much protien?
if so how do you do it? This basically means I need to add 1000 cals
more per day and all that basically needs to be protien.

| | Four grams of protein per pound of body weight? That's crazy, I hear a
lot of the experts say 2 grams per lean pound of body weight but never four.
Protein is toxic to the liver in massive amounts and I consider four grams per
Lb pretty massive. One of my good friends is on this months M&F cover, he weighs
like 275 ripped and his protein intake is 475 grams per day and he's a pro. His
only job is to eat, sleep, and lift, so he can do this. My advice is to try to
eat 2 grams per lean Lb and to throw away that magazine. Still, since you don't
like protein drinks I think even 2 grams per lb is going to be very hard to
ingest.

| | There is a lot of evidence of protein spill in the urine when taking in
too much. Do you have a reasonable doctor who can help you here? Maybe
experiment with the gr. of protein until you reach the saturation
point? It would take weekly urinalysis, but if your HMO or whatever has
a sports medicine group you might be able to weasle into a study of
some sort. Teaching hospitals might help, too. Please do some MEDICAL
research, not just BB research, before you risk your liver and kidneys.

| | As I recall (and I may recall incorrectly); there are some litmus type "sticks"
(the little paper strip things) that can be used to detect protein in the urine;
no need to be a urinalysis.

| | didn't we have this discussion once before?
too much protein can really mess up the body, if one doesn't assimilate it very
well. i read an article a long time ago stating nearly the same things and the
editor(s) as well as other nutritional professionals advised against consuming
that much protein unless one is of the rarest of the genetic gifted that can use
all that protein on a daily basis.
i believe the medical community, bb'ers, wl'ers, fitness enthusiasts of all
types that are looking to put on muscle have all come to agreements that the
reccomended dose is far too low and that 1.5 - 2.5 gm protein per lb bodyweight
is more than enough to do the job one is looking for.
i think thta's too much for anyone to do for extended periods of time, anyway.
reg.
p.s. rich - new issue coming out of M&F? i wonder if he'll be on my subscription
or the newstand issue? anyone else notice that?: a lot of mags have different
covers for subscriptions vs newsstands?

| | Hey Reg

Who cares if we had this discussion before, I mean it's not like this
file is filled daily with a kajillion topics 8^). Besides if the
discussion was had, I could not find it because I did a bunch of
different searches and anything that far back should be considered
    outdated.

I didn't say I was going to do this diet, I just couldn't figuire out
how one does it. I mean there are only 3.4 grams of protien in an egg
white. You would have to eat 42 egg whites to consume enough protein
in one meal to make the 144 grams I would have to take each meal.
Please I have a hard enough time eating 10 in the morning.

So even if I look at the 2 grams of protien per 1 lb of body weight
your talking 72 grams of protien per meal. I can't do even that!
Thats still 21 egg whites for breakfast or 10 egg whites plus at least
    two protien shakes, gag....

So how do you pack on the necessary protien without killing yourself,
    anyone got an suggestions?

| | oh, now i wasn't being snide (i signed it reg, didn't i?); i just meant that we
bantered about with this before and (the part i forgot to add) we didn't come to
much of a conclusion then either. 8^) that person must do nothing all day but
sleep, eat, and lift [obviously sponsored to allow that type of luxurious
lifestyle]; i'm sure it includes a lot of drinks and a lot of eggs [i think the
article i read yrs back stated something like 2 dz eggs/day!!!!], anything
concentrated as i don't know how anyone could spend that much time eating and
exercising enough to keep in shape and growing muscle at the same time.
talk about good genes!

His name is Jay Cutler, he's from my home town of Sterling. He
was on last months subscription cover, and he's on this month's newstand
cover(different pictures). I noticed they run two covers too, he told me he was
on last months cover, so I went to the store to find he wasn't, then my buddy, a
subscriber came over with the same issue with him on the cover. More exposure
for different BB'rs I guess.

Jay Cutler isn't local anymore. He's been in plenty of magazines over
the past 2-3 years, beginning when he was about 17 or 18.

| | He's still pretty much local, he went out to Venice, wasn't for him.
Lives in West Boylston now. He's 23 and didn't really get into bb'ing until he
was 18, so no magazine covers back then. He has in the last year been on all the
big ones, I even saw a picture of him in MM2K. I was talking to him a few weeks
ago, he just got his pro card by winning a major amature show. He's still really
down to earth, hasn't let all the quick success go to his head, he's a real good
guy.
