My customer asked about this:
Multi-CPU Alpha running Windows NT 4.0. If one CPU goes back does
the system keep running minus the one CPU or does the whole system
go down.
And while I'm at it would the same apply for an Intel system?
Thanks.

Re .0, symmetric multi processor is not fault tolerant. That is true
independent of the CPU architecture. An SMP system is not guaranteed
not to crash when a CPU goes bad. Probability wise, miracles do happen
on a quiet system. A well designed SMP system guarantees that the
system will boot and functional despite a faulty CPU (which is
isolated) and there is at least a functional CPU remains.
