I am trying to set up a modem on a Personal Workstation 433a with
NT Workstation v4. The modem is a 28.8 modem and came from a
DECpc LPv+ 433dx. I cannot get the NT system to recognize the
modem. I believe that I have tried using com1 - com4. Does the modem
have to be in a special slot? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I've always wondered why people did that, i.e. trial and error versus
just picking the right one. ;-)
I can't help with specifics, but if the modem came from a machine that
has 2 built-in serial ports, there is a chance that the modem is set at
COM3, with a non-standard IRQ (not IRQ4).
Good luck,
/Bill

I finally figured out what was happening. My modem was set to COM3
and I thought that I was using IRQ4 and I/O address 3E8, however
when I added the port COM3 within NT it was defaulting to IRQ15 and a
different I/O address. I needed to go into advanced options to change
it to the irq and address that I needed.
