| | Well, I'm nowhere near DECwest, so you can ignore these answers if you like.
VC++ V5.0 has just gone to manufacturing. See decwet::visual.
I'm using IE 3.0 (4.70.1216). It can use ActiveX controls with no problems.

| | Re .0, NetShow on Alpha has been available for Beta from the Microsoft
NetShow download area. I did download it from there a couple of weeks
ago on to my desktop system (i'm at WinHEC and can't quite get to it
over the network). The Digital/MS plan is to make NetShow available
simultaneously on Intel and Alpha NT.

Ernie [email protected] is the Digital person from DECwest who is in full
touch with this effort. I believe Ernie is out of town this week as
    well. Please send him mail.

| | Re .0, IE 3.01% is currently the latest native Alpha NT. IE 3.02 build
for Alpha is lagging behind Intel. I believe IE 4.0 will be on Alpha
    and Intel simultaneously.

| 1025.5 | V1 or V2 of Netshow for Alpha | NYOSS1::BUONOMO | Show me the MONKEY | Tue Apr 08 1997 14:28 | 7 |
| | Sean,

MS Web site for NETSHOW only has i386 architecture available for V2.0
Beta. Are you Running V1.0 or V2.0, I need MPEG support.

    Thanks,
    Lou

| | Re .5, i downloaded the Beta 2.0 version. Not all NetShow components
were available on Alpha NT at the time i downloaded them. I'll check
with the MS folks to see what's up.

A side note, at WinHEC tonight, Digital Semiconductor showed NetMeeting
running native on Alpha NT using the AV3x1 adapter on the new APC164SX
    boxes. Nice!

| | It would be nice if we knew what an AV3x1 adapter and an APC164SX box were.
What does NetMeeting do that is relevant to them, whatever they are?

| | The Alpha ActiveMovie player, amoviea.exe, can be downloaded from ...
\\nteast\wizards in the amovie folder. It provides you with streaming
MPEG2 (software codec) in conjunction with IE3, but can also be used as
    a standalone MPEG player.

You can also check out the SoftImage/Digital NetShow live feed from
NAB'97 this week. Go to www.softimage.com and punch the WEBcast button.
You will need to download the NetShow player plugin to view. It can be
    had from the same site.

Latly, Steve George heads up the AlphaServer side for the NetShow
effort. He's probably at NAB this week, though. Look him up on ELF.

| | Re .7, i apologize for spewing out these part numbers without the
    proper context.

The AV3x1 is also known as JV3 or Video Supreme, which is a multi-media
video adapter on Alpha NT (it is not supported and does not work on
Intel NT). APC164SX is yet the latest Alpha OEM motherboard by Digital
Semiconductor (based on the Pyxis chipset) built for system vendors
    (such as Enorex, et al.).

NetMeeting is the Microsoft videoconferencing product (similar to
Communique! - before it got bought out by NetScape and stopped
supporting Alpha NT). NetMeeting works with a variety of MM-video
adapters, including the AV3x1 (Digital's own) and the Osprey-1000/100
adapters that DECwest Engineering assisted in the port.

This (NetShow and NetMeeting being available on Alpha NT) is
significant in it's being tangible collaterals of Digital/MS
cooperation/collaboration in engineering and other areas.

Does anyone have the proxy information for stuff that goes
over UDP? I tried entering the info used for RealAudio but
as I suspected, that didn't work.
HTTP "pre-taped" stuff works, but not live feeds like cams.

These are PCI video capture (and output) boards with Alpha NT drivers
that work on all of Digital's Alpha workstations.

These boards, their drivers, and the H.261/H.263 video codecs being
used by NetMeeting were all developed in the Light & Sound group.

NetMeeting 2.0 will be available shortly and should be available
simultaneously on both Intel and Alpha.
