I have a customer who is unable to install the Bookshelf Navigation
Utility (BNU) V1.0 on his OpenVMS VAX V6.2 platform. He got his
kit from the CD entitled VAXDOCMAR971. In the [SETUP] directory of
this particular CD ther is a file called BNU_SETUP.COM. He ran this
to install the product and answered the questions appropriately
selecting default values. If failed with the following error:
%PCSI-E-FAILCONF, failed to resolve conflicting requirements
for file [DECW$DEFAULTS.SYSTEM]BNU.DAT
Terminating is strongly recommended. Do you want to terminate? [YES]
I've done some research on this error message... I couldn't find
anything specific to BNU but for other products which fail in this
manner it appears to do so when there is a newer version of the
product already installed on the system. This is not the case.
The customer thought that he needed the BNU.DAT file on his system
so he copied it over and retried the installation; it still failed.
I instructed him to remove the file.
Any ideas?

I have since had an update to this problem. Apparently, the product
installed correctly the first time. It's reinstallations that failed.
