	mail...  I signed up on their web page a while ago....

    Real tough to do for only a few days.  The places around the Wiers have
    gone to full week rentals - if you can get one.
    
    HOWEVER...
    
    Anything is possible, so it wouldn't hurt to try.  Will have to do some
    legwork.  Or, you might connect with someone who knows someone who
    knows someone.  OR, you could just show up and get lucky.  I run into
    folks every year, who just show up and check with places and get in.

    I have a friend who used to rent a condo for the week on the top
    of the hill decending to Weirs and he told me since this event
    has become so popular his rent has trippled and they can' afford
    it.  A camp ground would suffice also.

    	We have had some what of a cold spring in Colorado but the last 
    couple weeks have warmed up and has been nice. Weather usally moves
    from west to east so maybe your weather will start getting better.

    It's been a few years since I've been up there but this year I plan on
    going up for the day (Saturday).  Does anybody know how long a ride it
    is to the track from Hudson/Marlboro MA and what time does the track
    open??

    Yes, it Doooo get a little `smoggy' during Bike Week, I must say...
    
    From Hudson/Marlboro it's gonna be about 45 min to the NH border.
    If you take the main roads, then it's gonna take another 2 to 4hrs
    to get to Laconia/Wiers.  I'd recommend a `back door' approach.
    (Check a map).  Come come up 495 only as far as to 119 W, go thru
    Groton, follow signs to Peperrell, catch 122 through Hollis NH to
    101 E (direction Bedford/Manchester).  Follow 101 to 28N (Hooksett)
    exit to 106 N/E which will take you right past the track gates 
    and on to Wiers Beach (follow the signs) where the show 'n shine 
    and freak show is going on.  
    
    The whole trip is about 85 or so miles from MRO, HUO and only takes 
    about 2hrs total because you're not standing in miles of camper,car,
    truck, trailer etc. traffic or fighting the crowds.  There also plenty
    of places to stop, relax, relieve, munch, fuel the horse etc.
    
    2 / 3 years ago when temps approached 100 in the SHADE, it was 
    downright dangerous to be out!  Folks were passing out like flies
    and generally getting burned to a crisp...
    
    I don't mind cool... you can at least dress/undress to suit.
    
    The only problem with downright cold, like it's been, is that
    the `traditional' roadside spectator signs imploring, "Show us your
    T-ts", won't get any cooperative `flashing' by occasional female, (and
    male), exibitionists, (my wife included, years ago), who are fully clad
    in leather.  
    
    That particular Bike Week tradition has always been harmless fun...even 
    back in the `bad'(?) old Hells Angels days when it was common to get 
    passed a bottle of whiskey or a joint in the stands/crowds and see 
    impromptu strip-tease dances.  
    
    My wife and I have been going for over 20 years and NEVER saw anyone 
    get out of control over that particular tradition.  Drunks, yes, 
    love bags, no.

     Excellent call!  I drive the 122 through Hollis route every day and
    the apple and horse farms etc. make a pleasant drive.  Especially if you
    consider how many people will be stuck overheating at the toll
    booths...  ;^)    
    
    Have a bit of a care getting onto 101 at the intersection of 122 and
    101 - you turn left at the light, but there's a railroad track going
    diagonally through the intersection.  It catches about a bike a week
    I'm told.  8^(  There's plenty of room between the tracks and the
    left-hand center island for a single-file line of bikes to get through
    without actually touching the tracks.

    I turn a wide then sharp turn and go across the tracks at a 90 angle.
    Never had a problem.
    
    I once was flying down the road near Evian, France (yes, where the
    water comes from), and came upon RR tracks that were about 10 degrees 
    to parallel with the road.  My wife was following me and behind her 
    was a Bimmer riding 2-up. 
    
    She didn't notice my instinctive little zig to appoach the tracks 
    closer to 90 degree angle and when she hit the tracks she caught
    the groove and damn near lost it completely.  She disappeared from 
    my mirror and the Bimmer was gone as well...  Rode back and there
    they all were stopped with my wife white as a sheet.  
    
    "What happened?", I asked.  "I hit those tracks and I was all over the
    road!", she gasped for breath.  "This guy was nice enough to stop and 
    see if I was all right only he's speaking German."  "Try French.", I 
    said, not thinkng... The guy was O.K. with French too...a Swiss.
    
    Anyway, the speed actually saved her because the momentum and gyroscopic
    action of the bike's wheels kept her going 
    and upright in spite of the track grooves.
