    Hi,

    * Posted in ARCHIVE_BACKUP but was asked to post here.

    I've the following configuration :

    1 AlphaServer 2000 (OpenVMS 6.2-1H3)
    1 VAX 4705 (OpenVMS 5.5-2)
    1 Pentium (WNT 3.51)

    Q1 : What is the recommented set up ? (PAB, SLS ?)

    Q2 : How do I specify remote tape drive in both ABS and STORAGE
    commands ? (node::MKA300: or node::TZ887 as specified in TTI config)

    Q3 : Can I do STORAGE LOAD node::TZ887 VOLUME volumeid ?

    Q4 : How do I use DCL BACKUP command on RDF tape ?

    Q5 : I suppose serving disk to remote nodes via RDF is supported as it
    is one of the question asked during installation. What is the benefit
    of having RDF disk served vs DECNET/PROXY ? Can I perform BACKUP/IMAGE
    on RDF disk ?

    Thanks,
    Mong-Kia

    SLS provides no client services for WNT. Archive/Backup aka ABS or
    PAB is your best bet.
> Q2 : How do I specify remote tape drive in both ABS and STORAGE
       commands ? (node::MKA300: or node::TZ887 as specified in TTI config)

    Either specification will work. I think you'll find the setup less
    confusing if you avoid use of the RDF characteristic name and just use the
    device name.
> Q3 : Can I do STORAGE LOAD node::TZ887 VOLUME volumeid ?

    Preferably, use the commands:
       $ STORAGE SELECT/DRIVE=node::MKA300: MYDRIVE
       $ STORAGE LOAD MYDRIVE volumeid
> Q4 : How do I use DCL BACKUP command on RDF tape ?

       $ BACKUP filespec MYDRIVE:saveset-name/SAVE
> Q5 : I suppose serving disk to remote nodes via RDF is supported as it

       on RDF disk ?
    Contact Touch Technologies, Inc. (TTI) regarding RDF support for
    serving disk drives. SLS/MDMS does not support this feature of RDF.
    The two questions asked during SLS/MDMS installation are intended only
    to find out if the node will use remote tape drives and if it will serve
    tape drives.
    Hope this helps,
    Marty.
