| | Hi,

I wanted to put a plug in here for the Acton Jazz Cafe. My vested
interest is that I like the place a lot, and want it to prosper :-)
I think it helps fill the void left by the Old Vienna's closing.

Despite the name, the AJC has a couple of more or less regular events
catering to folkies. Primarily, there's an acoustic open mic, hosted
by Hewitt Huntwork, on Wednesday nights. I confess I haven't made it
to one of those yet, but I hear the turnouts are good. On Sunday
nights, my pal and sometime college radio DJ Kathie Dalton MCs a series
    of performances by women.  These shows often feature folk acts, too;
for example, last night was a fine show by Daring Angels. The first
Sunday night show of each month is an open mic specifically for women
    artists.

The AJC is a non-smoking room with 70 seats. It's a restaurant, with
dinners and some lighter items. (Sorry for not trying to be more
    descriptive - a restaurant critic I ain't!) There's a full bar with
    some nice microbrews in bottles.

    AJC is on Rt 2A in Acton. If you're coming from 495, it's 3 1/2 to 4
miles away, on the right as you go toward Acton. It's in the back of a
small enclave called Collage Mall. I'm told that a restaurant called
Ciao used to be there. Phone is 508-263-6161.

    Cheers,
    Chuck

| | I'm trying to place it, geographically, since I don't know where it is.
If it's where I think the Ciao restaurant used to be, that would put it
about 1/10 mile before Strawberries (record store), as you travel east
on 2A toward Concord. Going in that direction, Strawberries is on the
left.
