The DECbridge 90 allows you to create protocol filters based on
Ethernet V2 2-byte protocol identifiers or the IEEE 802.3 5-byte SNAP
SAP protocol identifier. There is no support for filtering based on
IEEE 802.3 DSAP protocol identifiers. The SNAP SAP protocol filtering
code checks for a match on DSAP == AA (SNAP SAP) and does not further
processing on the packet if it does not match. All other DSAP
protocol identifiers pass through this section of code.

From the features section of the SPD for DECbridge 90 V3.9 -

     - Set up to 16 protocol filters, which may be set as either
Ethernet protocol types (two bytes) or IEEE 802.3 SNAP SAP
protocol identifiers (five bytes). Each of these 16 filters can have
one of five dispositions. (The first two dispositions are mutually
exclusive, and cannot be used simultaneously on the same bridge.)

There has been some confusion on this so plans are to add the following
    test to the SPD -

The default handling of IEEE 802.3 DSAP protocol identifiers
(other than the SNAP SAP of 'AA') is to always forward. This
behavior is not altered by the setting of IEEE 802.3 SNAP SAP
protocol or Ethernet V2 protocol filters.

| | It can't be done with the bridge 90. thanks for the clear answer.
Remains the question: Can it be done with the 900-EF?
The installation manual, and the product description say it has "full function
protocol filtering capabilities". Unfortunately I do not have a 900-EF to find
out how full these capabilities are.
I am pretty sure a Chipcom 5102 can not do the job.
Not sure about Chipcom 5106.
Chipcom would be an expesive alternative for customers not having Chipcom yet.
For those interested:
We are selling the Proteon bridge/router for Token Ring / Ethernet connectivity.
This one seems to have netbios filtering (according to product description)
Anybody out there can share his/here experience?
Erwin

| | The DEFBA supports protocol filtering based on -

    	2-byte Etherent protocol id
    	1-byte DSAP protocol id
    	5-byte SNAP protocol id

| | What about the DEBMP (DECswitch 900EE)? Does it support protocol
    filtering based on:

            2-byte Etherent protocol id
            1-byte DSAP protocol id
            5-byte SNAP protocol id

| | Yes. DECbridge 900MX
      DECswitch 900EE
      DECswitch 900EF
      PEswitch 900TX
and the fibre variant of the DECswitch 900
all filter exactly the same way.
