Today, in daily planning it is hard to keep a level. Old concepts for planning and documentation are not suiting todays networks: Old drawing concepts are not fitting. How to plan and document e.g. a HUB? My Idea: - "Offline" HUBwatch to configure without active Equipment. - Testing configuration with a Test-Tool. - Saving Configuration with Resilience (or shall I say Clearvision?). - Giving Media (Diskettes...) to Field for Installation. - Saving "Pictures" from my "Offline" Hubwatch for Documentation (Should be a better solution than Print-Key). - Sampling all Docs together to burn a CD - Delivering Doc to Customer (On CD). (Must be easy to read and print: E.g. ADOBE-PDF-Reader, not Bookreader) That's only an idea. But I believe that it would also be able to encrease productivity and quality: - Straight way from planning to Documentation, avoiding unnecessary steps. - To give Media to our Field-Service is better than to discuss configuration of complex networks on Paper. - Everybody is tending to digital Multimedia (Marketingstrategy?), but Network-Documentations are on Paper, like hundred years ago. Peter,
Some of the stuff you mentioned is planned (Offline HUBwatch...)
For some of the other stuff, well, we're doing long-range planning
right now. I'll bring it up.
Personally, I'd rather burn CD's (with a flamethrower) and get a
paper book. ;-) It's too hard to read a CD in bed.

also I will print out all the saved files with the Backup&Restore Language from Resilience. This Paper-Pack I will send to you. Then you can read it in bed! I hope the NW-Mgmt at customer-site isn't working in bed?! Regards Peter I wish you Happy Easter! [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] | |||||
