3415.0. "ProbeWatch max MAC addres, DECswitch900 probe" by IJSAPL::VISSER_A () Tue Apr 02 1996 04:37
Hello,
I have some questions about ProbeWatch,
- There seems to be a maximum of MAC addresses in the macaddr.nam
file. It looks it has a max of 512 names. Is this a bug or expected
  behaviour?
- There is a restriction of max 256 hosts in every domain.
Is is due to memory limitation? Is it possible to extend this for a
  domain? (ALL)
  Background:
When a customer uses a probe it is mostly because his network is
growing big. Big is not limitated to 256 hosts, so I do not
understand this limitation. I often have used LTMreports to create
LAN performance reports and the hosts seen on sites candidate to use
  a Packet probe have 1500 to 2000 hosts and 2500 to 3000
  conversations.
- If the Packet probe has not enough memory does a DECswitch900 has
this? Can I use a DECswitch900 as a dedicated probe (switch of
switching) and use all the available memory for RMON?
I would like to know because I want to change to ProbeWatch or
PolyCentre Netview to do my LAN performance reports.
  Greatings,
  Anton Visser
