2870.0. "Multiport Bridge Port "learning" question!" by SWANDC::MAUTZ (Networks >= to DECnet) Mon Oct 16 1995 18:37
Can anyone confirm the following for me:

On a DECbridge 900EF, port 3 is connected to the BP thinwire. The
FDDI ports are dual homed to concentrators on a couple other HUB900s.
the remaining Ethernet ports are at their defaults (out the front)
and they are not connected to anything.

If I create a LAN segment in the hub backplane, with a DS900TM on it,
and connect one of the remaining Ethernet ports to it, will just that
one port go into "learning" mode ?

I have been told that the whole bridge will not switch into
pre-forwarding and that makes sense to me logically, but I want to
be as certain as I can before telling the customer to do this to
    there live network.

    Thanks,

    Richard

| | Once the switch completes self test and initial learning then its
stable. When a port is connected, that port and only that port goes
into pre-forwarding. There is no interuption of traffic on any other
    ports.
