Hello,
The customer report that there are some mips error on DECrepeater
900TP. The detail description as follows;
Incorrect information reported from SNMP
>
HP OpenView MIB browser was used to browse the Repeater MIB of
DECRepeater 900CP and 900TP. What we want to do is to gather connected
workstation's MAC addresses from the repeater MIB objects. However, the
object erptrAddrDBPortGroupIndex (id:.1.3.6.1.4.1.36.2.18.11.5.1.1.2.3
.1.1.2) which identifies the group containing the port on which this entry's
MAC address was seen, and the object erptrAddrDBPortIndex (id: .1.3.6.1.4
.1.36.2.18.11.5.1.1.2.3.1.1.3), which identifies the port within the
group on which entry's MAC address was seen, report incorrect values
using the MIB browser The object erptrAddrDBPortGroupIndex reports values
seems to be the port within the group on which entry's MAC address was
seen (i.e. values of erptrAddrDBPortIndex), which erptAddrDBPortIndex
always reports values of 1s no matter how the ports are grouped.
Note that the MIB browser reported correct values for the two objects
when DECRepeater 900TM was used. Since we are going to use the two
objects intensively for network management (to build network map with
node's MAC addresses), correctness of the MIB objects is essential for us.

Hi, I'm sure one of the repeater or test folks will investigate this. > What is the lastest firmware version and mips of DECrepeater 900TP ? > Where can I get it ? See note 2.0 for a pointer to the latest consolidated firmware kit. MIBs can be retrieved using anonymous ftp from gatekeeper.dec.com. Instructions are attached. I'm very impressed that your customer is using the DEC private repeater MIB. Could you tell me a little about why your customer is looking at it so closely? (Is the customer trying to manage the device without HUBwatch? Is the customer writing an application that HUBwatch doesn't provide?) -Shawn -- Digital offers Internet anonymous ftp access to DEChub900 MIBs from -- gatekeeper.dec.com. -- -- 1) Use the Internet application "ftp" to connect to -- ftp.dec.com (Internet address 16.1.0.2). -- 2) Log in as user "anonymous". -- 3) Use you electronic mail address as the password. -- 4) Change directories to the /pub/DEC/hub900/mibs area using -- "cd /pub/DEC/hub900/mibs". -- 5) Use the "ascii" command to specify that you are -- retrieving ASCII test files. -- 6) Get the README file using "get README". -- 7) The README file explains how to retrieve this MIB. -- It lists the latest version on the MIB. It may -- instruct you to "cd" to another directory where -- you can "get" this MIB. -- 8) When you are finished, use the "quit" command to log out. -- -- Inquiries about the contents and use of this MIB may be sent to -- [email protected]. | |||||
| 2579.2 | Ports & groups & portswitches | NETCAD::STARKESON | Fri Jul 28 1995 12:15 | 18 | |
Hello,
The MIB Browser is actually reporting the correct values.
In the older repeaters, TM, for example, all ports were in a single
group, so ports would be addressed as group 1, port n.
In the portswitch 900CP and 900TP, each port is in its own group,
so ports are correctly addressed as Group n, port1, which is the
behavior your customer is reporting. This organization of ports
into their own groups is what allows the ports in the portswitches
to be assigned to different lans independently.
Just to be complete, the 900FP is a compromise, where each group
contains 2 ports.
