The old LANbridges (100/150/200) support maximum interbridge fiber
optic distance of 3.0/3.0/10.0 Km respectively as documented on page
A-2 & A-3 of "Bridge and Extended LAN Reference, EK-DEBAM-HR-003".
Does any of DEChub 90/900 fiber Ethernet module support this range? We
have customer who needs only Ethernet over 2.0 but less than 3.0 Km
interbuilding LAN-to-LAN. It looks like we have to sell them old
LANbridges.

One of our major cometitor in the HUB market offers a 802.3 FOIRL
transceiver which, they claim, will work over 3 Km. From other sources
I hear that it problably works, given the link is within loss budget
etc, but of course it is not supported by neither DEC nor the 802.3
rules.

That reminds me of the customer in Phoenix a dozen years ago that ran
VT52 terminals on 480-foot RS232 cables at 4800baud. They worked find
as long as the terminals were never powered down!
The world is a set of trade-offs. Some more important than others (like
adherence to production networking rules I guess!)
