We couldn't upgrade the flash in our DECagent 90 so we got FS to
    exchange it. We're now at: HW=D01 ROM=BL05.01 SW=V2.1.3.

It appears that the device does less than before. We cannot set the
System Name, System Contact, and Location. We could only set IP
    address and community string.

Show community indicates. We have a number DECserver 90L+'s on the
    floor that doesn't show up.
                                  SHOW COMMUNITY

           1 DEChub 90-8 public

Viewing the only community that it sees doesn't show all the devices.
We have DECserver 90L+ in slots 1 and 2 and a DECserver 90L in slot 3.

| Kam, First, by exchanging the DECagent instead of upgrading your existing one you no longer have the configuration information (modules, communities, etc.) that you had with the old module. This information is retained in non-volatile storage on the module and would have been retained if you had upgraded the old module. Now you have a "fresh" module which means you have to configure those devices/communities again. Second, the devices you are talking about, the DECserver 90L/L+, are undiscoverable modules. Since these had to be manually configured with HUBwatch (or via the console if you were running V1.x firmware in your old DECagent) they will not be detected by the new firmware (they were not detected by the old firmware either). This is all clearly documented in the DECagent manual and release notes. V2.1.3 of the DECagent 90 firmware contains many new performance-enhancing features, a much-improved polling mechanism and support for new devices. Unfortunately, some of these new features came at the expense of some of the old convenience features such as the console configuration capabilities. Would you care to elaborate on why you were unable to upgrade your old DECagent? ...Roger... | |||||

| Note 1736 is the discussion on our attempts to upgrade the flash in our
    DECagent 90.

We're trying to move to 'tcpip' on our PCs so that we can run HUBwatch,
which is the preferred choice for management. We haven't been able to
accomplish this because we need connect to systems running DECnet only.

Read the DECagnet 90 but no close enough. Read introduction today. Am
    printing the release notes now.

    	Regards,
