Need some help understanding the DECrepeater 900FP's capabilities.
Assume I have 6 remote lans (on DEChub 90s for example). I want to star
connect these 6 lans together using a DECswitch 900EF at a central location.
Using a DECrepeater 900FP to take in (6) 10BaseFL connections through the
front bezel of the repeater, how can I then connect these 6 ethernets to
the 6 ethernet ports in the DECswitch?

Go into the DS 900EF and configure the 6 Ethernets to the backplane.
In the 900FP you will have to go into GROUPING and configure
each redundant pair to a separate group (1, 2, ...6) and then connect
each group to a separate Ethernet segment on the 900 backplane.
All point and click, your hands need never touch a keyboard.

Ok, that much I already understood. What you're saying then is that on the 900FP, a redundant port can constitute a connection to the backplane IMB as well as a physical ST connection through the front bezel *simultaneously*. | |||||

Yes. It's more like a redundant pair as opposed to a redundant
port.
Ports 1 & 2 are a redundant pair. So are Ports 3 & 4 and 5 & 6
and so on. Each redundant pair is switched as a unit and cannot
be separated. 1 & 2 cannot be split and both connect to whatever
IMB you decide on. You can connect each redundant pair to a separate
IMB or connect several redundant pairs to the same IMB.
Physically you decide how the fiber runs from the front panel.
Port 1 can go to a remote location while Port 2 is not used. In
this case one group get the full 10Mb. Or Port 1 and Port 2 can
go to 2 different remote locations. In this case 2 roups share
10 Mb. The final config would be to have both Ports 1 & 2 go to
the same remote location. This would provide a redundant 10Mb path
in case the primary fiber path broke.

See notes 1366.*, 1131.11 and 1131.13 for a conceptual description of
how the DEFMM (and future per-port switching repeaters) connects to
both the front panel and multiple backplane segments simultaneously.
Do not confuse how the DECswitch 900xx ports connect to either the
front panel or the backplane with the operation of repeaters. They are
different.

Note .3 was essentially correct, but I would like to correct some
terminology used.
DEFMM ports 1 & 2 are indivisible port pairs, as are ports 3 & 4, 5 &
6, etc.. By indivisible I mean that ports within a given pair can never
be places on separate backplane LAN segment. Redundancy is a completely
different issue.

Just to clarify, the above configuration would provide a redundant
connection ONLY if the repeaters on each side of the link are
EXPLICITLY configured to do so.
When configuring 2 ports on a DEFMM to act as a REDUNDANT MASTER PAIR,
these 2 ports do not NECESSARILY have to be members of the same
indivisible pair discussed above (although it would be a good idea to
configure it as such). As long as the 2 ports are grouped together on
the same internal LAN (see HUBwatch's port grouping view), you could,
for example, configure ports 1 and 12 as a MASTER redundant pair.
Notes 908.* provide some discusstion on DECrepeater redundant links,
but perhaps the best place to look for more info is the DEFMM's
installation/user's guide.
