Does the system assign a common extension to WPSPLUS files when you
extract them from Exchange?
If so, what is the extension? IE, .DOC for Word files, .XLS for
Excel files.

| I had the same problem using ExchangeLink, and I haven't found a WPS+
reader. In my case the extension the attachments came with is .WPL.

| One option would be to install TeamLinks version 3.0 which is currently in
field test. This version allows you to connect to an Exchange server, and
comes with WPS (and many other) viewers.

| WordPad is, well, an extremely trimmed down version of Word. It can
view/edit/create text files, Word 6/95 files and RTF files. It's free
in Windows 95 and Windows NT. It's small, fast and easy to use.

| I did not try to extract the document first. I simply double-clicked
on the (Word) ICON in the Exchange message... Why would it think it
was a word document anyway? I would expect Foreign... Must be a
Direct-to-1 "feature"...

| As mentioned in an earlier reply, TeamLinks 3.0 can handle WPSPLUS
documents and attachments so you could try that. TeamLinks can also
convert between formats so if these really are WPSPLUS documents in
your Exchange mailbox you could use TeamLinks once to convert them
into e.g. Word documents and they should work in the Exchange client
after that.
I'm actually working on the TeamLinks/Exchange interface so I would be
interested in seeing one of your problem files if it's not confidential
or anything. You could mail one to me at [email protected]

PS: Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought that ExchangeLink converted WPSPLUS
to RTF automatically as part of the migration process. That would
explain the Word icon. I don't know anything about Direct-to-1, having
never even seen it.

| I thought the conversion was automatic too. And, for the most part it
is... The problem is with a co-worker's account/document. I'll see if
I can get a copy for you.
I liked the Teamlinks/ALLIN1 combination, but since the official
Corporate strategy is to move to Exchange, and my ALLIN1 and VAXMAIL
accounts are almost history, I thought that Teamlinks would provide
little added value. I'm trying to reclaim some laptop disk space...

| In my case, I did my conversion a while back, so I am not 100% sure if
this was the way it happened:
I had both mail in VAXmail and A1. I believe the problem was when I
forwarded my VAXmail to A1 and then used Exchangelinks to move it
to Exchange. I'll see if I still have any of the those documents.

ExchangeLink will convert the WPS-Plus documents during migration provided
the required TeamLinks converters are installed. The Internal Use Only kit
available from http://flossy.reo.dec.com/ExchangeLink contains enough
TeamLinks run-time components to convert WPS-Plus to Microsoft Word, Rich
Text or Plain Text.
If you've already got TeamLinks installed on your PC you must ensure that
the converters you'll need are installed. The minimum is two; WPS-Plus for
reading the file and another for whatever format you plan to read them in.
The Exchange client can only read plain or rich text without shelling an
external "helper" application. If you didn't originally install any
converters, re-run SETUP.EXE from DISK 1 of the TeamLinks kit and select
the ones that you need. Then goto the Tools Format Conversion menu item
and add a conversion with scope "Any" converting from "WPS-Plus" to your
chosen format.
These settings will ensure that you end up with no native WPS-Plus format
messages in your Exchange mailbox. The preferred setting is to convert
Body/Cover Memos to Microsoft Rich Text format, so that they can be viewed
in the Exchange Read message window, and Attachments to Microsoft Word so
that they can be printed/edited easily.
