911.0. "Help with Alpha H/W Config for 600 Users" by SCASS1::HANSONL () Fri Feb 28 1997 15:30
I have been using the ASE MS Exchange Intel/Alpha Performance Report to
help size Exchange servers. I have had several discussions with other
consultants as to the performance accuracy for real world production
systems. It seems that while the performance tests are based on
Loadsim which help to compare systems, they do not accurately apply to
real world situations.
Do we have any real world configurations to support the performance
report or to help with server sizing?
I am in the process of configuring an Alpha Exchange Server for 600
users. I'm planning to propose an AlphaServer 1000A 5/333 or 5/400,
256Mb RAM, and 8 GB disks. While I believe this should be adaquate,
I'm concerned about that there is no processing growth if it is not.
This is for one of our partners who is also requesting pricing for a
similar config from Compaq for an Intel server.
Your help and experience is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lora
