	I've tried installing Outlook on a system running alpha based exchange
	and get all kinds of errors about some .fav file not being read-only 
	and get errors about some parameters bein wrong...exchange client 
	works fine...Does anyone have both working???

|  |     Hmmm - I don't believe your problem is at all related to Alpha
    platform.  I have the same problem on stock standard Intel ....
    
    After entering my DIGITAL2 password, the Outlook desktop screen paints,
    then a message box ;
    
    	"An error occurred in the folder shortcuts file (.fav).  Outlook
    	 will recreate the default folder shortcuts."
                               OK
    
    	"Outlook could not save the updated folder shortcut information.  
    	 Check to make sure there is sufficient disk space and that the file
    	 E:/WINDOWS/MS Exchange Settings.FAV is not marked read-only."
    				OK
    
    This happens every time I start Outlook on one of my PCs but not on the
    other.  I've even re-installed Outlook from scratch but the problem 
    remains.

|  |     Well - I was encouraged to find that I was not alone with this problem
    so I set out to track it down.  It is a known problem with Outlook as
    described in KnowledgeBase article Q163147.
    
    The solution is to set your display adapter to standard VGA (or
    reboot in Safe Mode), run Outlook once and exit.  You can then set
    your display adapter back to your original settings and reboot.  This
    manoeuvre allows Outlook to start up and exit normally from then on.
    
    Strange but true.  It worked for me.

|  |     The Windows magazine that arrived in the mail yesterday includes a
    strong recommendation NOT to upgrade to Office97 and Outlook.
    Apparently a number of system lockup problems were traced to registry
    problems introduced by the products, problems that become worse over
    time. They also took a dim view of Word97 creating backward compatible
    files as rich text files but naming them .doc.
