    For those of you who have already or are about to purchase ST USER
    magazine for November'92:-
    
    The files on the Cover Disk (all are self de-archiving - standard these
    days for ST USER). One file supplied contains MiNT written by Eric
    Smith which stands for "Multi-tasking is Not TOS"; the version is 0.95.
    There are a number of "C" source files, a simple SHELL and an
    Accessory. BTW, Mint is what ATARI have used as the basis of their
    Multi-tasking O/S that runs on FALCON.
    
    So far so good. The archived file is (this is from memory) about
    335,000 bytes in size. So you copy it to a blank/formatted disk (I use
    82/10 format) and start to de-archive. Eventually you get a write error
    because your disk is full. I tried this with a 1MB RamDisk - still too
    small. I then tried a 2MB RamDisk - success at last. It was then a
    simple matter of copying all de-archived files to my blank disk.
    
    Those of you with less than 2 MB of memory and no RamDisk are going to
    have fun. Well done ST USER.

    While they have messed up, most file-extracters will let you get the
    files out one at a time so all may not be lost if you don't have the 
    spare RAM.
    
    I havn't bought the mag so I don't know if that's possible in this
    case or if they're just suggesting that you need 2Mb to run it
    usefully!

    It is a self de-archiving format that they use; I am not aware of
    anyway in which to extract one file at a time. Yep , I can do this with
    other ARC's. The file is simply too large to de-archive unless you have
    a hard disk (or a poor man's hard disk - RamDisk).

        I've seen some in the past that have been able to be processed by 
    standard .lzh or .zip extracters. I just try getting a listing with 
    one or the other and it often works.

    You may be correct in that you can pull single files from the archive.
    
    As for MiNT - I have manged to crash the system at least twice but the
    README files do say that it is "BUGGY". I have not found much use for
    it yet (early days), it is a case of playing around and finding out
    what can be usefully run on it.
