A friend of mine has a problem with her Atari ST and asked me to help.
I know nothing about Ataris so would welcome suggestions.

The problem is to get Shift 3 to print as a UK pounds sign (). It
produces the right symbol on screen but the printer produces a
downwards arrow. If I change the DIP switches on the printer (a
Citizen 120) I can get the test print pattern to produce a pound sign
in the expected place but when print is routed from the Atari I get
a blank instead. Any ideas? Somebody musthave done this before
otherwise it is many hours with the manual.

try using the US character set with your printer and choose IBM mode.
Normaly they are using the 7bit ASCII, but in IBM mode you'll also
have the characters above ASCII 128 because they use 8bit. Usually
they characters like the "pound" and the german "umlaute" are available
as special characters above 128 in the IBM set.

If this problem occurs when using Wordplus, you could also modify the
printer driver file *.HEX and design the pound in graphics mode if not
    already available in the driver.
