| | I would also appreciate recommendations for commercial word-processing
programs - I'm still using my elderly BBC Micro for all my correspondence as
I haven't found a suitable program for the ST yet.

    word processors?

| | I'm also interested only in word processors - I need to produce letters,
reports, etc. which are text only. However, recommendations for DTP packages
would be interesting.
Could we have a brief review of the packages recommended - I've never even
heard of Word Up!
Chris.

| | I am certainly not an expert on DTP packages, but I have at home
(actually the BCS owns) Timeworks Publisher, Pagestream, Calamus, and
Fleet Street Publisher. I have not used Fleet Street at all. Timeworks
is the only other one that works well on a color monitor, and we use it
to produce out newsletters. It is professional and easy to use.
Pagestream does work on a color monitor, but is hard to read the text.
It does a good job. The BCS Amiga group newsletter uses Pagestream on
the Amiga, and Mary Ryan, the editor likes it. Calamus requires a
monochrome monitor. It is very professional, and uses vector fonts
which means it's output is similar to PostScript output.

For a WP package, I would recommend ST Elite for a PD WP. I use
Timeworks' Word Writer ST. It is relatively inexpensive (Under $50
retail). Most of the DTP packages use WWST binary files directly which
is a plus. On the professional side, Word Perfect is available for the
ST, but is difficult to use.

If you live in Eastern Mass, the BCS Atari group is having a Beginners
Clinic for the July meeting. We will probably have most of the products
    at the meeting.

| | I use(d) word perfect on the ST. I don;t think it was that difficult to use.
DEC employees can/could get it for abour $99. Call WordPerfect Corp in
Orem URT to see if tey are still doing it. It really is a pro program

people recieved a discount as well...

I've seen it selling for $295 on the shelf!

Does anyone out there know of any other DEC discounts for atari

| | If you can get back issues of STformat magazine, some PD DTP and Text
word processors have been made available.
