817.0. "DEAD 1224 Monitor!" by ACE::BREWER (John Brewer Component Engr. @ABO) Mon Apr 02 1990 22:20

    	I am another of thk Legions of Dead Color Monitor Owners.
    My SC1224 died (for the third time) yesterday with what appears
    to be a faulty power supply... no HV, no Power-on LED.

    	This thing died twice during warranty and this time its on my own
    bucks. I have seen several mentions of likely culprits (Varistor?)
    but this time it died without a whimper (or any smoke). I also read
    about Gold Star monitors, but I have no idea how to determine this.
    Does anyone have anyhints, schmatics, ideas on how to tell manufacturer
    (or a used monocrome monitor for sale cheap?).

    	The only logo I see inside is a Hitachi label on the tube itself.

    	Looking inside one of these makes me pretty proud of the quality
    of all the DEC monitors I have seen roll through here on the ABO
    monitor line!

    	All help appreciated,
    	/john

    	PS: I wrote Atari Customer Satidfaction. Though it probably wont
    help the monitor sutuation any, id DID make me feel better!
