    Hi,

Back a year or so ago, there were a couple of packages about, using Canon
flat bed scanners and software for the ST. they were around 1200 pounds
sterling, so 299 dollars has to be a steal, if you can get the scanning
    software.

I dont know whether the software can be purchased separately or even is
still available. I will look in my old mags where there was a review of
the products, tonight. I will post the Canon type numbers and the
software distributors, (if I can find the article!).

    Cheers

    pat k.

| | Hi,

I am looking for the article. In the ST world there was a comparative
study between several types of SCanner. There was the Adapted Silver
Read copier (A4 flatbed), two firms who provided packages using a Canon
flat bed, and an el cheapo light pipe system that u fix to a printer.

I had a quick look at the mags I have by the computer, but no luck. It
must be in the mountain of mags up in the loft, (if I dont clear them
out, they will be back in the hall!, thro the ceiling). This means
getting the step ladder from the garage, etc etc. I will do it
    tonight!

    Regards

    Pat K.

    Hi there,

I found the article in the December 1987 ST world !!!

The scanner in question was the CANON IX-12,

It was an A4 size scanner that couls take up to five sheets of paper

I dont think from the picture that it was total flat bed, I think it is
a feed in and roller inside type scanner.

To connect it to an Atari you needed an interface that went into the
Cartridge port as well as the software.

The cartridge and software in the UK was done by Computer concepts and
    Mirror soft.

IN THE US IT WAS DISTRIBUTED BY NAVARONE INDUSTRIES.

The cartridge and software cost 250 pounds not counting the scanner.

This Cannon (IX-12 probably is not the one on special offer. (it may be
worth calling NAVarone Industies in the US to see if other Canon
    scanners fit!

    Cheers

    Pat K.

(no I dont have their number, and the UK distributer Computer Concepts
no longer deals in Atari products, They moved to Archimedes some time
    ago).

| | You misunderstood my question, I wanted to know what firm is offering
the scanners for the low price.
Of course the other information is usefull if I were to decide to try
to get one.
						Thanks,

| | One Soldiers Field Road there is a firm called International Materials
Exchange. 617 Area code. The scanner is 295.00 and about 100.00 more
    for
a card that fits the IBM. If we could locate the firm that sells the
cartridge interface, we might have a working sytem. BTW the scanner specs
    says RS232 compatable. What
would the "interface" be needed for? COuld you not just plug it in the
modem port and set the Parity, Baud rate, etc?

| | Yes the modem (serial) port is RS232.
Find out what baud rate is required, and then see if that matches those
offered by the ST.
						Thanks,
