The backup utilities I know of work with file-copy anyway. I don't
know of a partition backup program which uses a track-to-track
copying method for harddisks. I understand that for this use, both
partitions must be exactly the same. There should be not many
    applications for things like that.

    It's me again...
To speed up your copy from HD1 to Backup-HD, you could use a
reorganisation program once in a while on HD1. So the controller
does not have to collect parts of files scattered all over the place.
Contiguous files speed up the operation a lot.

| | A STart magazine awhile back had some utility from Dave Small that did
something like what you want. I don't have the mgazine, just remember
reading it somewhere else.

| | Dave Small wrote just what you're looking for and published it in the
April '89 issue of START. PARTCOPY copies a megabyte in four seconds!
I uploaded the arc to QARRY::DISK$USER:[BHAMILTON.PUBLIC]PARTCOPY.ARC.

| | I tried downloading your file (re: .4) and, although the program comes
up, the source code is damaged (CRC error in file header). Am I doing
something wrong? Or, is there a special VAX version of ARC I should
    use to decompress this file?

    Thanks,

| | I just ran it through VMSSWEEP V3.5 (which is also available on
    QARRY::DISK$USER:[BHAMILTON.PUBLIC]) and got no errors.
