    re 275.0 and 275.1

Hi, whatever you suggest for VT emulation to customers do NOT repat
NOT, suggest WHACK, that is NOT for consumption outside Digital.

There are a large number of PD emulators and also I have seen
commercial emulators. One that springs to mind is "VT220 term" by
Michtron (I think), The obvious benefit of a Commercial package
is that the customers should get support !!.

It is gratifying to see that customers are choosing good machines
(megas) as terminals. Why they should want to hang a slow file handler,
(the Vax) on them is a bit peculiar!!

| 275.3 | Uniterm | NORGE::CHAD |  | Tue Oct 18 1988 07:37 | 24 |

I think the consensus would support Uniterm hands down (unless you are
a priviliged DEC person with Whack) as *THE* VT emulator of choice. I
know on USENET et al and at school where I was that nobody used anything
else. Simon Poole in Switzerland is continually (was?) 'supporting'
it and it has TEXed documentation (~70+ pages) so it looks professional.

Check on USENET. It is also archived here but I don't know what policy is
in regards to taking a copy off of the enet.
  Simon's address is (was):
      Simon Poole
      Bahnhofstr. 51b
 CH-5430 Wettingen
      Switzerland
Good luck

| | Atari makes a barebones VT100 emulator, in a cartridge, I say
barebones, I don't know that for a fact, but at around $24 U.S.
I can't imagine it being loaded with features. Eidersoft sells
an emulator that I believe was either developed in the U.K. or
England, I forget which. There is another package called AnsiTerm,
    not sure who publishes that.

| | I forgot to mentions Flash, which supports Xmodem/Ymodem and the
SHADOW accessory, that is available from Antic, not sure if they
have U.K. connections, but I would assume so.

My copy of flash states in large letters that it is a VT100 emulator.

However it is an ANSI terminal emulator. It does NOT support most
of the DEC VTT100 escape sequences. I have seen at least one
other emulator which misleads the buyer in this way.
    Be careful.
