Boyd Matson is the host of the award-winning
National Geographic Explorer series. Through Matson's travels,
the world's finest nature, science and human interest stories are
captured onto film. In his first year with Explorer, Matson
traveled across the world- from the volcanoes of Hawaii to the
African jungle- and was nominated for a CableACE as best host of
a magazine series.
Matson is well known for his work as co-anchor of ABC's World
News Now and host of CNBC's "The Real Story." While at CNBC,
Matson wrote, hosted and produced several syndicated specials,
including "Images of '91," "Images of '92: A Year in Review" and
"The Search for Amelia Earhart." Prior to joining CNBC, Matson
was a correspondent on NBC's "Real Life with Jane Pauley." This
marked his return to NBC after spending two years at USA Today on
TV as co-anchor of the weekend edition and cover-story
correspondent for the weekday show.
In his 14 years with NBC, Matson co-anchored Sunday Today and
served as a senior correspondent for the Today show. Assignments
for Today gave Matson a vast amount of experience as a writer,
producer and reporter for the series as he travelled to the
Amazon, Australia, China, Russia, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea and
New Zealand. During his tenure, he also created the recurring
segments called "On the Record," the first network coverage of
the music industry, and "Flying the Coupe," in which he toured
the country in a '63 Cadillac Coupe de Ville convertible to
report on unusual slices of Americana.
