Fellow Feliners,
Here's another desperate plea to find a home for a kitten! Here's the
story:
I work in MRO and last night while driving home I stopped at the
convenience store across from Haye's Memorial Drive. When I got out of
my car I noticed a small grey kitten (I'd say he's "I'm pretty sure
it's a he" approx. 6 months old.) Anyway, you all know how cold it was
last night, and there he stood SHAKING COLD. I went into the store to
buy my merchandise and asked the woman if she'd noticed the kitten
outside the store and she said he'd been hanging around there for the
past couple of days. In the meantime, he kept meowing at the door.
When I walked out to my car he followed me. I just didn't have the
heart to turn him away so I decided to take him with me, at least for a
couple of days until I could find him a home or a non-kill shelter.
The whole way home he sat up by my shoulder and kept giving me those
little "head butts" and purring away as if to say "thank you for
getting me out of the cold." He is SO AFFECTIONATE and BEAUTIFUL!!
The next dilema begins at my house. I currently have two full grown
cats, Ralph and Alice. I've mentioned in previous notes Ralph's
extreme territorial behavior (to put it mildly!) Anyway, Alice just
kind of sniffed this little kitten out and then just sat back to watch
the rest of the action. Ralph on the other hand became extremely
violent. He actually wanted to attack this poor kitten! Of course I
interveened (sp?) and Ralph ended up getting some scratches in at me.
Then the next male of the household (my husband) comes and tells me the
kitten can stay one night and that's it! (This is after an hour of
fighting between he & I.) To cut this down a bit, my mom, who lives
next door said she'd keep the kitten at her house until the day after
Thanksgiving. I have a friend that called from Boston while she was
there and he said he or his girlfriend might be interested in the
kitten, however, I won't know that until tomorrow when they come for
Thanksgiving dinner.
I've looked through the Marlboro and Worcester paper (I live in
Shrewsbury) but there is no ad for a lost grey kitten in either paper.
I'm currently calling around to all shelters to see if anyone has
reported a lost kitten and giving them my number. There's also a
couple of houses across from this convenient store (which is located
right on Rt. 2o) and stopped at the houses this morning. One woman was
home and said no-one owns a kitten like that there but that for the
last 2 nights her garbage has had rips in it. If I can't find him a
home (or even a temporary one), I am currently calling all the NO-KILL
shelters I can think of to get him in there.
Like I said, he is such a LOVE! I know he was starving because he
devoured 1-1/2 cans of cat food and still wanted more. I spent most of
the night at my mom's last night and this kitten just stayed right by
me. If my mom was holding him and I left the room he'd start crying so
he could follow me. This truly breaks my heart to know someone (at
least I believe) could let an animal like this go. I want to believe
someone has just lost him and if that's the case I'm covering all bases
to get him back to his owner.
I wish I could keep him but just CAN'T. Between Ralph and my husband
(which isn't a good situation to bring another animal into right now
anyway because of our relationship) I just can't do it. I'm hoping and
praying my mom get's attached but since her dog died (5 years ago)
she's still mourning and REFUSES to "get attached" to any other animal.
Bottom line is I need a permanent/temporary home until I can find him a
permanent home. If I can't I will take him to a NO-KILL, REPUTABLE
shelter. My heart goes to this little furface and I don't want him
dumped or lost like he is now.
Again, he's a male?, approx. 6 months old, all smokey grey, semi-long
haired. I also THINK he might be part Siamese. He has a long skinny
tail and pointed ears. His face is also shaped like a Siamese.
Thank you for you help/suggestions!
Nancy

Nancy...I don't have an answer but just a few comments. You
are great for helping this little guy that doesn't have a home...
and I'll keep my fingers crossed that your Mom falls in love or
you can find him a good permanent home.
I have noticed that there are so many stray cats right now trying
to find shelter for the winter. The same thing happened last
year at this time too! Last October I took in Angus and Chloe,
in November Dewey found us, and in December we took Abby in.
And this year is no different...in October Bogie found us and
now in November Van Gogh finally joined our family.
It's really sad that the world is so full of so many unwanted
unloved animals....but thank god for people like you that really
care!
Please keep us posted and if I do have any adoption leads...I'll send
them your way!
Sandy

Thank you for your kind words Sandy! Like my husband said last night,
if every stray followed me I'd help them, and I said you bet your *ss I
would!
I pray my mom or one of my friends from Boston will keep him. I've
already called Hopkinton Humane Society and she said the cats are
currently in quarentine because they all have upper respritory problems
and she can't let any go/come until this clears up. Aside of that she
has a 10 page waiting list! Same with Pat Brody's shelter too. They
all said said this is the WORST time of the year for strays. I always
thought spring would be because of most animals having their off-spring
usually during that time but I obviously didn't think that through.
I did find a shelter in Marlboro that will keep him until a home is
found and I will act as his "benefactor." At the very least I know he
won't be put down, will be warm, fed, and taken care of medically until
a permanent, loving home can be found for him.
Again, thank you for your kind words. You yourself is quite a
remarkable person for taking in all those strays!! I just wish more
people would think about the consequences when they dump these sweet,
loving, trusting furfaces!
God bless,

Bay Path Humane Society in Hopkinton, MA is also a no-kill
shelter. Their phone no is 435-6938. They were very nice
when I brought in a kitten last year [found mine at the bank,
though... :) ].
