| | I had heard the same thing....about Pennyroyal being poisonous.
However, I read in a cat book that Oil of Rue is a good deterent.
I've never smelled Oil of Rue, myself, but I guess cats HATE it!

| | yes, I would use Rue for a repellant, it's pretty well known and
safe to repel felines. Pennyroyal can be poison if used incorrectly.
It is great for fleas, but I wouldn't put in near a cat. It can cause
abortion in humans, in fact that is what they use it for, especially in
    the old days.

Both my cats HATE! LOATHE! ABHORE! DETEST! bananas... When I pull one out and
"open" it up, they run for cover... They act as though you are trying to
poison them... One time my wife ate a banana and then tried to pick up one of
the cats... the cat schrieked and tried to run away where she (the cat) would
have normally purrrred and whispered "love me love me love me love me..."
I've actually been thinking about getting some essance of banana at a health
food store and using it as an barrier and a behavioral modification tool for
some time but haven't gotten around to it yet.. I wonder if anyone has tried
this...

| | Funny you should mention that. Last night I took out a banana and
began peeling it in front of Kelsey, who was sitting up on the counter
watching. The face he made was priceless! Sort of pulled back,
scrunched up his nose, and walked away.

Wonder if bananas really would be an all-purpose feline repellent?!

| | I've found that the bannana peels repulse the cats, but the actual
banana rates up there wih (in the case of the FIRM) anything_edible.
Spiro has been known to steal a bite out of a banana. I've given
Kostas and Alex slices of bananas and they have both come back for
more. (I'm convinced that if Kostas were human he'd be a vegitarian.)

| | Maybe this is a dumb question, but what is Oil of Rue? I've
never heard of it? Is it poisonous?

Rue is one of the repellant herbs. Oil of rue is simply the oil
extracted from the plant. FWIW I have both pennyroyal and rue in my
gardens and the cats don't go near the pennyroyal.

| | Last night, my husband was eating banana and I told him about how some cats
in this notesfile was reacting to them so he went over and let Tasha sniff
it. She made the funniest face as if to say, "get that smelly thing out of
my face," and then backed up so far from it she fell over backwards.
Hmmmm, I wonder if I could pin a banana to the curtain to keep the little
terrorist from climbing it... :-)
