Hi,

I'm looking for a loving home for a kitty that wandered into our yard about
two months ago.  I've tried to find the owners in case he was lost, but
with no luck.  Hoping to adopt him myself, I took him to the vet's and he is 
FeLV positive (positive for the virus that is suppose to cause "feline AIDS").  
Since I have other cats, I cannot take in this cat, which is really breaking 
my heart because he such a wonderful kitty.  I took him to another vet to get 
another opinion and another test to make sure.  I'm sure that someone dumped him
because of this.  He's perfectly healthy and there is a good chance that
he will last several more years.  Here are his stats:

	o  neutered male
	o  all white, long-haired
        o  one green-eye, one blue eye
	o  about 7-9 years old
        o  front paws are declawed
	o  lap cat - as soon as I sit down, he jumps in my lap and snuggles and
           will not budge
        o  seems to get along well with other animals. He loves my dog and there
           are other neighborhood cats that come to visit and gets along fine
           with them.
        o  seems to be use to indoors - he's always trying to get into the
           house and looks at you like "how come you won't let me in?".

The vet has told me that humans and other types of animals cannot get this,
only cats via a bite, so he probably should go to a home where there are no
other cats or that has cat(s) that are also FeLV positive.  He's a wonderful 
cat who deserves a good, loving home.  I'm hoping to find him a home before
the really cold weather comes.

I live in Taunton, and work in Marlboro, but will gladly drive several hours
if that is what it takes to get him into a loving home.  My DTN is 297-3042

	Just to avoid confusion, Felv is Feline Leukemia. The illness that is referred to as Feline Aids is FIV, or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. For those thinking of adopting, you can learn more about FeLV and FIV by using the keywords. There are some very good discussions on these topics in this file. Do a "show key/full FIV" or "show key/full FELV" at the notes prompt. Jo

	I cannot take this cat but I want to put in a few words about a FeLV cat. I have a cat who was diagnosed 6 years ago as a FeLV+ . He has been sick only about 4 times (at most) for colds. He is 17 pounds of pure love. I hope I have him a long time. However, I have had other cats who have died of leukemia (3 this year) who were younger than Francis. I was devastated when they died and still miss them. What I would say in this guy's behalf is: If the cat is really sweet and a person is willing to keep him inside, to keep him out of drafts, and provide him with love, that person may have the luck to have acquired a wonderful companion. As long as they do not get with other cats, all is well. This guy could live longer than other "healthy" cats who go outside. The flip side is that maybe he won't. It's a chance but then some people are willing to take that chance. My feeling is that is some special person is willing to give him a chance at life, then I think that person will be rewarded somehow. Only my feelings tho.... Unfortunately I am maxed out right now. Pat Losing them is awful but they can have fairly long lives (Franny is at least 6 years old and had it when I adopted him; and friend's cat had it for at least 6 years).

	Doesn't the Pat Brody shelter have an area where they house FeLV cats? At least he would be inside and out of this awful cold which won't help his condition. Hope someone can make a home for this kitty. It's so hard when you have other cats that you can't put at risk Barbara & her 3M's

	Yes Barbara...the Pat Brody Shelter does house Feluk cats and the noter was sent Priscilla's number via one of my co-workers. The feluk cats are housed completely separate from the main house. They also have a small outside area to "hang out" in and seem pretty content and happy! They do get alot of attention!!!!! The only problem is I'm not sure Priscilla can take another cat in because she has strict orders from the vets to get the maximun number down. but it is worth a call...if she can't find a home that can take him in. He's sounds like a beauty!!! Sandy

	What has happened to this kitty? (he keeps poping up in my mind) I have asked several people who don't have cats and would maybe like one but no soap. My heart goes out to him and his adopted family. Barbara

We've created some shelter for him and been feeding him a lot, but we are still looking for someone to adopt him. Thanks for asking around.... Hopefully we'll find someone soon... Linda

	You may want to try and get him into some type of a confined situation. If he is loose outside, he is a danger to other cats. If he is infected with FIV he can pass it on to others. Is there any chance you could confine him in your garage or something? Also, if your own cats are indoor/outdoor, you may want to protect them by keeping them inside until he has a new home. Jo
