| Oh, this is awful! This morning on MY way to work we came upon a
kitty who was just hit by a car too. Already late, we pulled over to
take the poor kitty our of the road. I stayed in the car because I was
pretty upset. Dave moved him (or her) to the side of the road in some
soft grass. s/he was a very young little calico kitten, prob only
3 or 4 months tops. I cried most of the way to work. This is so sad.
I'm sorry if I bummed you out, but I needed to get it out.
I never would have let that little kitten out on such a busy road. It
was right off of Rte 9. in westboro on Lyman St (I think that's the
name of it.) near the burger king. I suppose he could have been a
stray, but that doesn't make me feel too much better.
To the base noter: It was very nice of you to go back & try to help the
injured kitty. I don't know if I could hold myself together long enough
to deal w/ his injuries & get him to the vet. I think I'd go crazy!
You deserve a pat on the back!

| I work at the Derekwood facility in Landover Maryland. We had two sets
of litters in our parking lot (across the street from a busy
intersection). Four weeks ago I was able to catch the younger set.
They all went to go home (DEC employees of course). But I couldn't
catch the other three that were about 12 weeks old. So I feed them
everyday. I put traps out during work but Mom cat must have told them
not to go near it. Anyway last week when I was out feeding them one
got hit. It tore me apart. Of course it was my favorite one of the
litter. I went home that nite and gave my cat extra lovins. Well to
make this story end happy - we finally caught the other two. They are
very scared but are calming down day by day. They too will go to good
homes when I think they are a little better around people.
To the first noter: so glad you tried to help!!

| It does kind of ruin your day to see something like this. I keep
thinking of the cat that was hit and wonder if it got home and got
help. It was early enough in the morning that its owner might not have
left for work yet and could have gotten it to the vet. Gotta think
positive.
Had I found the injured cat, it would have opened a big can of worms
but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't try to do
something.
Bonnie, how sad, to find a dead kitten. Maybe I shouldn't say this
(since you're already bummed out) but someone may have dumped the
kitten by the side of the road to "get rid of it" (one way or another).
There are some real idiots in this world. It was nice of you to stop
and move it off the road -- it's awful to see dead animals get mashed
into the road. They deserve more respect and dignity than that.
Good work, Tricia! Hearing such success stories makes up for the sad
ones. I'm sorry the little one didn't make it, but at least the others
will have a chance.
At least we know WE care, right guys?!
