| 4866.1 | Hopkington Humane - aka Baypath Humane | MODEL::CROSS |  | Tue Aug 20 1991 16:28 | 14 |
|  |     Hi,

    Call Baypath Humane in Hopkington (a no-kill shelter). Their
    number is 508-435-6938. If they have room they may take her.

    Elaine Brim, who volunteers every other Wednesday is very nice.
    I believe there is a woman named Sally (?) who is very nice too.
    I got a feral from her, as she had found it to be rather
    unadoptable so before giving up, she even took her home to see
    if she couldn't work with her. Maybe she'd help you.

    I got all my cats there and they are very nice.

| 4866.2 | One more thing..... | MODEL::CROSS |  | Tue Aug 20 1991 16:29 | 7 |
| | One more thing.....I forgot to tell you that the Baypath Humane
    is only open 11 - 3:00 daily. You might be able to call them
    in the morning and see if the cat can't be brought in around
    lunch.....that is, of course, if they will take pregnant cats.
    I'm not sure about how the rules are on this.

| 4866.3 | Local VET who may help. | MODEL::CROSS |  | Tue Aug 20 1991 16:33 | 9 |
| | Here I am again...boy, you sure are going to be bored hearing from me
    again :-). I had another thought. A week or so back I went to get my
    kittens checked out for Felv and brought them to a vet in Marlboro...
    a Dr. Patil who runs the Compassion Veterinary Clinic on Hosmer Street.
    The number is 485-PETS. I remember his wife (who is also a vet and
    acting receptionist) told me they sometimes take in strays. You might
    call them as well, and they might even be open tonite.

| | I second Nancy's idea and was going to suggest it before she did.

    Many times, a caring vet will foster a mother cat and her babies until
    suitable homes can be found.

    Please keep us posted! And try calling a few local vets (Marlboro,
    Northboro, Shrewsbury) to see if accommodations can be made.

| 4866.5 | temporary home offer | MR4DEC::KTRAINQUE |  | Tue Aug 20 1991 17:04 | 9 |
| | If you can't find a vet or a shelter that will take her in. I can take
    her temporarily (sp?). At least until her kittens are old enough to be
    placed, and I'd have to find a home for her. I've already got another
    stray that just had five kittens. I'm keeping Nikita and as it looks
    right now, three of her kittens.

    Well, security just told me that two men in a red pickup truck came and
    picked her up.....

    All I can think is that someone from this conference saw my note and
    did something (otherwise who would it have been)?

    Anyway, I had two offers for home for the little sweetheart, and I
    thank you all dearly. I really wish I knew who the people were who
    picked her up.....if it WAS from this conference, please let me know
    who you are, so I feel a little safer about it, please?

    Thanks. (Hoping it wasn't security calling someone to 'dispose' of
    her).

| | Well the DLB area must me the place to dump pregnant cats. Last
    December I found a pregnant stray outside of DLB9 and took her
    home. She did lose her kittens but she is healthy, happy and fixed.

    I sure hope the person in the truck wasn't from the cat pound. Can
    you ask security if they had called someone to pick her up????

| 4866.8 | Animal Control, Marlboro | MODEL::CROSS |  | Wed Aug 21 1991 10:23 | 12 |
| | Well, I called the Animal Control officer for Marlboro and he said,
    "No, he didn't pick up a cat yesterday at DLB. He said they don't
    usually pick up cats, period, only because they don't have the
    facilities to care for them." He suggested calling Berlin to see if
    they have an animal control person but he wasn't sure if they did. Of
    course, I have to go assist some of our people here, right now, so I
    can't do that. But maybe someone out there could???? :-)

    Geesh, I wish I knew who picked that poor animal up. I only hope it
    was a friendly adopter!

    Security didn't call (actually they did, but everywhere they called
    said that they wouldn't come pick up cats). Security for our building
    was all very sympathetic and wanted to save the cat.

    I didn't give directions to any of the shelters that I called that said
    that they would destroy it.

    In fact, the only place directions here were posted would have been in
    this conference (so I'm hoping it was thru someone in here) or if
    someone in the building called somewhere without my knowledge. There
    are very few people left in my building, though, and since our power
    was out most of the day, most people weren't even in work. I don't
    think anyone would have called without me knowing about it.

    Crossing my fingers..............

|  |
    	I just spoke to security, and the person mentioned the cat
    	(knowing what a sucker I am...). I'm at NRO, so it's the
    	same security people. He says the receptionist knows who
    	picked up the cat. He thinks it was `the humane society'.
    	He didn't know who, though. I said, Not Worcester?? And he
    	didn't really answer that...I hope it wasn't, they put too
    	many to sleep...

    	Maybe if you ask your receptionist she would know who it was.

| 4866.11 | She's Back!! | ESIS::FEASE | Andrea Midtmoen Fease | Fri Aug 23 1991 06:57 | 11 |
|  |     Hi,

         I work in DLB12 also and the kitty is back. Poor thing, she's
    very skinny but as Kathy said, she is also *very* pregnant. If anyone
    can give her a temporary home (I can't with the three cats, rabbits,
    chickens, etc.; my husband would *kill* me ;-) ), maybe you can stop
    by today (or this weekend), before someone calls the humane society ...

         Thanks!

    I'll reimburse you for the cost of the catfood...I can't
    get there from here!

| 4866.13 | Mom's having kits! | ESIS::FEASE | Andrea Midtmoen Fease | Fri Aug 23 1991 10:56 | 20 |
| | Well I picked up the cat this morning and put her in a xerox box
    to hold until someone could get her. Kathy had someone lined up to
    take her, but before she could come in, Momcat decided it was time to
    have her kittens (after having a little milk, of course)!!

         Never having had kittens, I was worried that she would have
    problems and I wouldn't know how to help her, so I rushed her over to
    Nancy DC (hope you didn't get in trouble by getting pulled out of your
    meeting!). Nancy opened the box and there she was with 3! I didn't
    even know she was having them, just thought she had started.

         Nancy has a coworker that has taken Mom and kits for the moment.
    Kathy I think had someone lined up, so Nancy if your friend can't keep
    her I think Kathy's got someone who would. I see lots of mail flying
    around!

         Anyway the kits look good, Mom is great (let Nancy pick up the
    kittens and everything). A little food, love and time and she'll make
    a *wonderful* pet. Sure wish I could have taken her, but as they say
    the Inn is definitely full.

| | Thank goodness! I was talking myself into an after work trip
    to DLB....I wouldn't have been able to sleep knowing she was
    ther, begging for help!

    Thanks Andrea & Nancy DC....

    to saying I'd take her but wasn't sure how quickly my husband could
    file for divorce in NH!

    Great job all!

| 4866.20 |  | BOOVX2::MANDILE | Lynne a.k.a. HRH | Wed Nov 06 1991 17:32 | 14 |
|  |     Update:

    Momcat is now named Dominique (i.e. Black & white-domino)
    and has been spayed. She is gaining weight (slowly, but
    non the less, gaining! (-:) and is really a sweet little
    lady. I will find out how old the vet thinks she is
    tomorrow night, and will update all.

    Her favorite catfood is canned and dry Alpo, BTW. She
    also likes 9-Lives & Fancy Feast canned. She will eat
    most any type of good storetype food. But, she refused
    to touch Iams or Science Diet dry!

| 4866.21 | Age approx 1-2 yrs old..... | BOOVX2::MANDILE | Bad horse, bad horse | Mon Nov 18 1991 16:31 | 13 |
| | Dominique now responds to her name! Well, her nickname
    actually. It's Nique (pronounced Neeki). Her spay went
    well, and she is/has healed fine. She gets *really* excited
    when you go to see her. After begging for attention, getting
    chin scratches, back rubs, and at last getting a hug, she starts
    to do laps of the barn, the loft, and continuously checks to make
    sure I'm still in the stall I'm cleaning.....

    She would make an excellent housecat. She is clean, friendly,
    loves to play, and very pretty!!!!
