| Gussie must be related to Mocha. He goes to the groomers every 6
weeks for a bath and grooming. They say he is good for them while
they groom him (I know full well they are talking about someone
else's cat, so I grim and nod my head) as we can't get near him.
I must say it is worth every penny.

| To get a list of keywords, type SHOW KEYWORDS at the notes prompt.
Once you find the right keyword for what you want to know, type SHOW
KEY/FULL WHATEVER, substituting the keyword for the word whatever.
That will give you a list of relevent notes to that keyword.

| Try using a small flea comb. I use to try and brush my seven
with a brush that was about 4 inches long...and they hated it.
I now use a small flea comb....and everyone loves it. It works
great in taking out the loose hair....and also catches those nasty
fleas. Very easy to use...and the cats purr up a storm.

| My Tabitha has been getting up earlier these days & being a pain in the
patootie, too! I think it's got something w/ the sun coming up earlier?
who knows tho!? I just put up w/ it, cuz if I get up & feed her she'll
do it all the time, anytime! I find that it takes a week or so to get
the idea thru to her, but "I'm IN BED! I don't bother you when you're
sleeping, so don't bother me! You ate before bedtime & you'll get fed
in a couple of hours when I get up! if you keep this up I'll start
WAKING YOU UP in the afternoon, so you'll sleep thru the night!"
There's always dry food down at my house, so they AREN'T hungry!! They
just associate food w/ LOVE LOVE LOVE!! (PrrrrrRRRrrr) & if you get up
& feed them at their command, they'll keep doing it until you listen to
them. But if you don't let them associate the noise they make in the AM
w/ LOVE LOVE LOVE (food) they'll eventually let up. I KNOW, believe me,
how difficult it can be to break them of this habbit, I had the same
question last year, & I think it was Jo that gave me the advise I've
passed on to you. It did work & now I get to sleep (most nights,
anyway!)
I remember I asked about it in the dietary question topic, but I'm
not sure what the note # was. It's topic 3 I believe. Good luck w/
the little goof ball!

| Thanks to all for help in curing Gussie's getting up
before the birds, I have resorted to two stimuli:
1. A water pistol. It worked. It ruffled her pride but did no
other harm. Thanks, Nancy et al
2. A feline companion to expend her energy on. I adopted an
adorable buff-colored three-year-old female, Snooters,
who fit in right away, tried to jump into bed the second night!
So far it's all hisses and growls between the two kitties,
but neither has a particularly aggressive personality, so
things will probably be okay after a week or two.
I can't say that I've had any luck with the grooming problem,
but will try the flea comb. If that doesn't work I'll try
a rubber-tipped brush.

| I used to use a flea comb for grooming, but it tended to "pull" on
clumps of hair. I got a similar comb with teeth spaced more
widely apart (2 to 3 times) which the pet store said was
a grooming comb, and it seems to be significantly better at
combing vs. pulling clumps.

| I also had trouble grooming my long hair - who naturally has a
tendency to hair balls.
I took it slowly, no all-over-body strokes, for quite a while.
Gave her lots of the brushing she does like - just on the flat of
her head and jowells - to soften her up. Cut out the burrs in
her fur with scissors to smooth the brush strokes.
After one year I can get her to (1) lie down and lick my foot while
I brush her back vigorously (2) allow me to stand her upright with
her paws in my left grip and brush her stomach for 45 seconds!
She even purrs sometimes.
