Thank you for asking!!!! I have always wondered why there was never a
keyword for us folks... ;')
Cin is pretty busy these days, so I'll through in my 2 cents worth.
I have a red tabby Exotic that I simply adore :'). I saw my first Exotic
visiting a cat show (remember, jo?), instantly fell in love with the
breed and got a cat from Cin. Now I plan to start to breed. I have never
had problems with hairballs but I do give him laxatone on a regular
basis, just because cats ingest hair from grooming whether they be
shorthair or longhair. I find Exotics affectionate ESPECIALLY with
their owner. Intelligence? I think so, although you may get a
different answer from someone that does not own one! Just like humans,
our pets are products of their environments. Get a baby from a
reputable breeder that gives their kittens TLC from day one. I could
not imagine my life without Bailey and I cannot imagine breeding
anything except Exotics!!!

Hi Jean,
I am a little confused by your question about being interested
in wanting to get an Exotic Shorthair. Are you interested in
information about the various breeds, or do you really want to
own one each of many types. You've had a lot of notes like this
during the past year, each time saying you wanted information
about xxx breed because you wanted to get one.
If you want information about lots of different breeds, then I
really think you would get a lot of pleasure from getting some
books about cats, and also attending one or more cat shows.
At the cat shows, you can see all the different breeds in real
life, and you can also talk with the owners about what each breed
tends to be like at home.
If you need help finding a cat show near you, then let us know
where you live (and what large towns are nearby if you live in
a small town), and we can keep a lookout for listings of cat shows
in your area.
Sounds like you really want to get to know about cats, and so you
should have a lot of fun at a cat show!

Shorthair? Are they as smart as Siamese, or perhaps just slightly more
intelligent than a Birman?

Well! I think this is an appropriate note to introduce my
new baby!
His name is Domino. He was 10 weeks old last Saturday.
He is an Exotic Longhaired kitten. I got him from Cin
Gerry just last week. He is adorable! Very affectionate,
very cute personality and very smart. He's a little
black ball! One of Cin's exotic shorthairs had kittens
a few weeks ago. They look like a lot of them are going
to be short haired. I saw two short haired tortie's
in there. Beautiful!

| Okay, I'm just getting caught up so I figure I ought to respond
to this note.
I have been breeding Exotic Shorthairs exclusively for about 5 years.
Before that I bred Himalayans and Persians.
I find Exotics to be very similar in personality to the persians,
except I think they are more playful and energetic. They are very
affectionate, (or at least mine are!), loving and easy going.
There are several noters in here that have kitties from me....
The price range of Exotic pets is around $400, more or less, depending
on type, color and age.
I currently have 1 litter of kittens that is 3 weeks old....I do
not know yet if the kittens are long or shorthaired. We usually
get about 50% longhairs and 50% shorthairs in the litters. In the
current litter, I have 3 blacks boys and 2 Tortie girls. I am also
expecting another litter around the 30th of this month. That litter
will have Brown Tabby kittens and Copper-eyed White kittens.
Diane Levin (another noter here) is also expecting a litter of kittens
from her persian female that she got from me, bred to Stripees,
my Exotic Shorthair male. There will be both long and shorthaired
kittens in that litter.

| I just can't say enough about Cindy's babies. They are healthy,
happy, well cared for kittens. And Cindy is one of those unique
individuals who has managed to breed to the standard WITHOUT
sacrificing the cat's health. I don't think you'll find a
Cattyshack cat that has any of the problems that some of the
breeds with "squashed" faces can have.
Cindy knows her breed and she knows cats.

HEAD: Round and massive, with great breadth of skull. Round face with
round underlying bone structure. Well set on a short, thick neck.
NOSE: Short, snub and broad. With "break".
CHEEKS: Full.
JAWS: Broad and powerful
CHIN: Full and well developed.
EARS: Small, round tipped, tilted forward, and not unduly open at the
base. Set far apart, and low on the head, fitting into (without
distorting) the rounded contour of the head.
EYES: Large, round and full. Set far apart and brilliant, giving a
sweet expression to the face.
BODY: Of cobby type, low on the legs, deep in the chest, equally
massive across shoulders and rump, with a short, well-rounded
middle piece. Large or medium in size. Quality the determining
consideration rather than size.
BACK: Level.
LEGS: Short, thick, and strong. Forelegs straight.
PAWS: Large, round, and firm. Toes carried close, five in front and
four behind.
TAIL: Short, but in proportion to body length. Carried without a curve
and at an angle lower than the back.
COAT: Dense, plush, soft in texture, full of life. Standing out from
body due to density; not flat or close-lying. Medium in length,
slightly longer than shorthairs but not long enough to flow.
