| | Cinnamon is probably reacting to the birth smell of the kittens and the
new smell of Sugar. She will probably get over it in time. I would say
that if Sugar will let her near the nest and she isn't worried, you
shouldn't be. Just keep a close eye on her and give her plenty of
    affection.

| | I made Cinnamon stay in the house today. But she is very demanding
when she wants to go outside. And if she wants to go out bad enough
she'll run between my legs when I'm going out. She stays pretty close
to the house, so I can usually go pick her up and bring her back in
when she woln't come in on her own. I just never expected this
    kind of reaction from her.

I'm going to be home all next week so, I'm hoping lot's of extra
    attention will bring her around.

| | If Cinnamon is going outside, I'd be worried that she might bring in
cat germs -- or fleas, at a minimum -- and the kittens might catch
something. I've heard there are respiratory infections going around --
this would be very bad news for the kittens. A couple of weeks ago three
of my (indoor-only) cats caught a bug somehow and had diarrhea. Tweetie
was the worst and had to go to the vet. After a shot, three days of pills,
a special diet, and confinement to the bathroom (which got cleaned more
in three days than in all the time I've lived there), she's now fine.
Aside from the danger to the kittens, I'm sure you wouldn't want to have
    to deal with that.
Are Cinnamon and Sugar up to date on all their shots? That should help
somewhat, but I'd still keep Cinnamon away from Sugar and the kittens.

| 4268.5 | not too worry, but keep them separated | WR2FOR::CORDESBRO_JO | set home/cat_max=infinity | Fri Dec 21 1990 16:34 | 13 |
| | I have to agree that if Cinnamon is going outside at all, then she
should be kept isolated from Sugar and the kittens. Newborns are very
vulnerable to illness and you could find yourself in quite a mess if
they were to get sick. A minor upper respiratory could be fatal for a
    newborn kitten.

In time Cinnamon will accept the kittens. I wouldn't allow any contact
between them until the kittens have recieved the first two shots for
URI though. Cinnamon is reacting to the different smells, and she is
probably afraid of the newborns. Let's face it, they don't look like
cats yet. She will come around. In the meantime, keep them separated.

| | Yes, both Cinnamon and Sugar up to date on their shots. I'm going
to try putting Sugar and the kittens in a closed room and let Cinnamon
have the run of the house. I surely wouldn't want the 'Sugar babies'
to get sick in any way.

Thanks so much for the advice,
Hope you all have a very safe, healthy and happy holiday!
