| I went to a local show here in the U.S., and it was very
different. The judges only handled the cats in the show
ring. The owners were always at their cage(s), and asked
someone they knew to watch the kittys if they had to leave
for any time period. The judges announced when to bring
the cats to the show ring, and when to come get them.
Very few were left in what I would term as unattended.

| The European show format is quite different from the American. The
cats are not handled by their owners in a effort to make the judging
completely free of prejudice. Some American breeders wish that we
could have your format over here!! You can rest assured that your cat
will be judged solely on it's own merit, and not on who owns it or who
shows it.
The cats are safe in the judging hall from what I understand. The
judges and their clerks take each cat out at it's own benching cage and
judge it there. Then they put it back in it's cage and move on to the
next cat. Judges are very adept at handling cats, and they will be
careful with your cat.
I have a friend who is a judge for Fife and she has never relayed
stories about cats getting loose or getting lost at shows. I am sure
that precautions are taken. If you are worried about it, call the
entry person for the show and talk with them about it. Maybe they can
soothe your fears with some information about what precautions are
taken or how often (if ever) a cat has gotten loose.
Bear in mind that even at shows where the owners are right there, the
cats sometimes get loose. I can imagine that it would be a lot easier
to catch a loose cat in a hall with no breeders or spectators than it
is to catch one in hall full of thousands of people who are only trying
to be nice and help, but who are also scaring the sh*t out of the cat.

| Yes, but there were lots of people wandering about amongst the cages
during the judging. So if a cat got loose .... yikes! Also the best cat
in show was judged in the middle of the hall on a table with loads of
spectators crowding round. I really didn't feel confident that the cats
couldn't get out. There was nobody on the exits, no double doors etc.
I'll definitely phone the organisers of the show and find out if its
the same set up as this. I don't want to lose Rolf in North London!
I was really disappointed about the show. It wasn't like I expected and
it wasn't fun at all :-(

Just to answer my own question and in case any other UK readers are
interested. This years National Cat Show (the worlds largest!) is at
Olympia on 14-DEC-1991.

| This isn't to do with a show, but thought I would enter it anyway.
Kattomeat is offering a calendar of Arthur and his Pals for 6 can
