| Chris have you had scratch tests to find out exactly what you are
allergic to? If not, it would be a wise thing to do before you get
rid of the cat. You may find that you are allergic to so many other
things that having the cat around really doesn't hurt you that much.
Both my husband and I are allergic to cats (Jack much more so than I)
and we manage to do just fine with a little medication (Seldane or
Histimal). We currently have TWELVE cats and I breed scottish folds.
Be patient trying to place Pathfinder. Its very very difficult to
place a grown cat and the shelters are full full full these days so
his chances of being euthanized are fairly high if you take him to
a regular shelter.
I sincerely hope you will NOT abandon him when you move. That would
be very cruel and irresponsible (in my opinion). It sounds like you
care too much for Pathfinder to consider such an alternative.
If you decide you MUST go the shelter route, contact me and I'll
give you the names of some "no kill" shelters to contact.
Unfortunately, I suspect they are full but its worth a try.

Chris,
A couple of other suggestions. Aller-Pet puts out a product
that you shampoo your pet with, and it's supposed to work
really well to eliminate the saliva and dander enzymes that
people are typically allergic to. Their number is 212-861-
1134. There's also another outfit called ANIMAIL Products
that makes a product that you rub into the cat's fur, and
it reacts chemically to neutralize the saliva and dander,
again eliminating allergenic reactions. Unfortunately, I've
misplaced my ANIMAIL catalog, but maybe somebody out there
knows of them. I recall the product being about $4.95.

| Hi,
There was a blurb in the Globe recently saying that if you simply
bath/wet your cat down with water once a month, you can greatly
reduce the dander that builds up, which gives some poor souls the
allergic reaction. The same suggeston was also in the publication
that the Boston Human Society sends out, and I'm pretty sure they also
recommended a water bath once a month.
I have 3 furfaces, but I have not tried it yet cuz I'm not allergic
and I don't have anyone else in the house who is. It sounds easier
than giving an actual soap bath, and probably better for their fur.
Has anyone tried a water bath and gotten good results?

Thanks you all so much for your replies. As the last note says, and
Note 4192.*, we have found a home for Pathfinder. Roger came and picked
him up yesterday afternoon for his daughter. It was sad to see him go,
and I sure did miss him this morning when I got up, it was so quiet not
hearing him asking me to go outside as he used to do every morning, and
purring back and forth betweeen my legs while I get ready for work.
But hopefully this will be for the best. Re. 1: Yes, I have been
scratch-tested for allergies, and I reacted badly to cats/dogs. My main
problems was that after I touched them, if I touched my eyes without
remembering to wash my hands, they would blow up like balloons! This
stopped me alot of times from being able to cuddle, and pet him as much
as I'd of liked. And after your eyes do that too many times, you get
weary...which wasn't fair to him. Don't get me wrong, I did play/cuddle
with him...just not as much as I would of liked to. He was such a
character...I'm going to miss him.

I almost wished I had...I sure am going to miss him.
But I wrote to Roger yesterday and he told me the first night went
well...so I feel better now. Said his daughter loved him, and was going
to keep him in for a few nights to get him used to the new home.
I forgot to tell him...to tell Debbie...Don't be suprised when he
knocks on the door at night to come in!! Last night with the wind
blowing so hard, I kept thinking I heard him at the door.

| Its so hard to give up a cat you love to the care of someone else.
You do your best to find the cat a good home, but unless this
person is a close personal friend, I think you always worry afterwards.
Ask Pat and Cindy and Bernice what a basket case I was when I
sold my first kitten! I cried for two days!
Two of the kittens went to a mother and daughter. The daughter
visits her mother and dad almost every weekend and brings
her kitten to visit the other kitten. I have heard lots of
great kitten stories from them, have visited the kittens and
helped Terri (the daughter) with her first cat show on Saturday.
I'm not worried any more :-)
Keep in touch with Roger and ask him to send you more kitty stories.
It really helps
