Denise, that is very upsetting. I can't believe how cruel people can
be. I know its hard, but don't dwell on what this creep said.

Are the police going to keep in touch with you?

I'm keeping Rusty in at nights now because I live on a road that has
no lights and it would be so easy to take a pet. Whatever happened to
the times when Halloween was fun and you didn't have to worry about
people putting things in candy, or taking animals for rituals?

    Regards,

    Val

    	Denise,

How awful for you! Bad enough you're worried about where Pepe
may have gone. To have someone call and say that is nothing
short of cruel. Even if it was only meant as a harassing phone
call. (ie: they didn't really but thought it would be good for
a laugh to tell you that)

I really don't understand what goes on in some people's heads.

    	Best wishes,

    	JJ

| | Denise,
It could just be the sick mind of some sick individual who is playing a
sick joke on you. I don't know all the circumstances, but I'm guessing the
poster you were refering to was a plea for anyone who has seen Pepe'. Perhaps
a sick individual saw the poster and thought it would be "fun" the scare the
living daylights out of you,
Years back a cheerleader was murdered in my home town. Days after they
found her body, my girlfriend, who was also a cheerleader received a phone call
claiming she was next. After a month of police cars sitting by her house all
night and police escorts wherever she went, nothing happened, thank God! As
it turned out the murderer wasn't looking for cheerleaders, he just struck
when the opportunity arose. The point I'm trying to make is that a sick person
decided to play this cruel joke on my friend. This may possibly be the same
thing. I really hope it is.
Hopefully the police will get to the bottom of this. I am so sorry.
Cindy

| 4085.4 | what happened to the good times? | WJOUSM::GASKELL |  | Thu Oct 18 1990 11:12 | 24 |
| | Denise,

There is a very, very good chance that your call was a teenager who took
advantage of an opportunity to hurt someone. Answering machines are a
gift for these kinds of people, they can get their message out with
    little fear of being traced.

Please remember that late summer and autumn are the times of year that
many animals take it into their heads to wander--its like the urge to fly
south when the nights draw in, and, in general, cats are not as focused
as dogs on retracing their steps. I keep reminding myself that for every
sick person out there, there are a dozen who are not and although they
may not be actual animal lovers they do, and have, helped aminals
    animals in need.

I agree, it's sad that sick people have turned a fun time of year into
    a nightmare.

Please, please, someone write something cheerful on Feliners soon--there
have been so many sad notes lately.

| | Denise,

I am so sorry. I feel so bad for you. I really can't find the words
that can make you feel better. I just hope that this sicko isn't a
DEC employee who has been reading this file. If he is he'd better cut
the crap because in no way is this humorous! What did the police say?
I'm curious to know if this has been happening in your area. Where is
your area anyway? If there is anything I can do for you please let me
know. I'll bet it is some kid playing a joke. You didn't put your
number on the poster did you? Take care and if you need a friend you
know where to find one. 8)

| | What a sicko! Obviously this person has never experienced the joy of
having pets. He/she does not know what it's like to have unconditional
love, a friend for life - a creature that doesn't care if you gain a
few pounds or a pimple pops up out of nowhere. Someone who knows when
you feel down and does their best to comfort you. If this person
wasn't such an a**hole you could ALMOST feel sorry for them.

Denise, hang in there. I'm sure Pepe just wanted explore the world for

| | If you had your phone # posted, you were definately setting yourself
for the responses of sickos like this one. More than likely, it was
just someone's idea of fun to say that to you. Maybe if you keep a poster
up, your vet wouldn't mind if a caller left a message with the office
instead of giving your home #. My neighbor came up with that idea when
she lost her kitty last year while they were moving. She got him back
too! The vet didn't mind helping out. You'd be surprised at the sick
things people do when they know you are in pain and they have your
    phone #.

| | If someone had used your cat, the intent would not be to torment you
and I doubt that they would have called to tell you so. I suspect this
is just some sick bas**rd who gets his rocks off by torturing caring
people. The sort of person who can't experience love and can't stand
to see it in anyone else.

| | How very sick? I believe it was a cruel joke...some jerk took
advantage of your phone # being posted. When Cam was missing
we received a sick call from a kid stating "he was from the Dog
Pound and he picked our half-dead cat on the road" He insisted it was
our cat even though he really couldn't describe the cat. We then
asked where the cat was and where could meet him and after blabbering
about how he was new and no one was in the office...he said to call
back the next morning and he hung up". Well we immediately called the
Dog officers from every surrounding town and noone had made the
phone call. We called surrounding vets to see if they had a
cat that got hit by a car...and nothing. Same from the Police who
said it was a cruel joke.

Please follow up with the Police to ensure they are investigating...
What a sick world we live in....thank god there are some wonderful
    people on this planet.

Keep you hopes high for Pepe!!

| | Hi,
Thank you everyone for caring. I don't know what I would do without
all of you great feliners. I don't know where I have ever met such
compassionite people who care for others and for pets. I truly thank
    everyone for being so kind.
I still keep looking for Pepe', but no luck. I think about him alot.
I haven't had any calls since the last one, I did go right to the
post office and take the picture of Pepe' down, and I did have my phone
number on it. I had written "If anyone has seen this cat please call
me." I still can't understand where Pepe' went to. I moved to Russell,
Mass. on a dead end street so my pets would be safe. I miss the little
    cat alot.
      Thank you everyone again.
      Fondly,
      Denise

| | We can talk all we want about a sick society but as long as parents
allow their kids to watch horror movies, killing on TV and buying
them toy guns, tanks, soldiers, etc what can we expect? Look at some
of the t-shirst the kids wear these days, the parents pick most of
them out. I just don't believe monkey see monkey do can be part of
our society anymore. Bless the parents who dare to be different and
rear their kids with, manners, discipline, and love. Not a popular
way to do it but in the long run their behavior stands out in a
sick world and is one to be admired by all who "really care."

| | I will answer for Nancy, it means NO CHILDREN under 17 will be
admitted. It takes the place of X rated films. You can show a
women being stabbed in the breast but a breast can not be fondled
on the screen. How's that for sick thinking?

| | Nancy, I agree! I love to watch horror movies (especially the older
ones), but prefer not to see the kind where there is mutilation etc.
You can see this type if you pick and choose well. Vampires and
werewolves are my fav's. The problem here lies ( I believe) with what
the parents allow the children to see. We were baby sitting once and
my husband took the "little one" to the video store to get a movie. At
seven years old he chose "bloody birthday". It had a cake on the
cover. An adult can hopefully decide between right and wrong,
depending on their upbringing. If I had a child and I ever found out
that they had done something as horrific as what we have read about, I
don't know how I would react. Hopefully being the way I am with
animals, that would teach them from the beginning.
